Sleep is a detrimental necessity for human beings, which, when not enough is obtained, a noticeable depreciation in the daily functioning of the sleep-deprived individual(s) can have a detrimental impact on the adequate performance of certain critical daily functions. Due to late studying activities or the need for work, college students are among the groups of persons that are at risk of becoming sleep deprived. The purpose of this study is to help the community to be aware of the adverse effects that the lack of sleep can have on the human mind. It also provides insight on how much sleep is needed for an adult person.

In my opinion, this research proves to be of use not only for students but for the public in general. The subject in mind reflects a problem that is not exclusive for students, but is inherent to other members of the society. I have personally experienced the consequences of the lack of sleep. Since my daughter was born, 4 years ago, I haven´t had enough sleep. The average amount of time I get to sleep at night is 5 hours. It is even dangerous when the next day I must drive to work. I have seen it also in my son when sometimes he stays late at night speaking on the phone or watching movies. He turns into a zombie, loses his focus, and his sporting capacity. As a working and studying person, and as a father, I am ready to propose a commitment intended to change my family´s sleeping habits. It will surely increase our productiveness and improve our lifestyle.
