Today, Russia is the largest country in the world and is a highly developed

country continuing to grow each and every day, although years ago it was one of the

slowest developing countries . It is a country that is located in North Eurasia

and is bordered by many countries. From the northwest to the southeast, this

country borders Norway, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, the Ukraine,

Belarus, Azerbaijan, North Korea, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. It

always shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk and the United

States state of Alaska across the Bering Strait. Russia covers about one eighth of

earths inhabited land area which makes it the largest country in the world and is

also the worlds most populous country with about one hundred and forty two

million people . Throughout the span of the land of Russia, it goes across nine time

zones and incorporates a large range of environments and landforms.

Russia’s economy relies on energy revenues to drive growth and contains an

abundance of natural resources. These resources include oil, natural gas, and

precious oils . Today, Russia’s economy is considered a market system but has

transitioned from a command and control system. Today, the economy contains

capitalism, there is more room for the government to step in because of the past

market failures, there is a private ownership of resources and the uses of markets

and prices to coordinate and direct economic activity, individuals and businesses

can seek to achieve their economic goals through their own decisions, there is more

private properties, people have freedom of enterprise, self interest, and there is

more competition .
