INTRODUCTION
The American creed is that there are unalienable rights of “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” for all the citizens within America. Therefore, why are there barriers within the workplace such as discrimination? Discrimination in the workplace is a common occurrence, mostly resulting from the differences in employees' morals, values, and personalities. Dealing with discrimination in a rational manner is important to maintaining a vigorous work environment. Believing that a conflict such as discrimination will simply fade away is an inaccurate assumption to make. The reason being is that situation such as those dealing with discrimination, needs immediate and prompt attention. If avoided, law suits, discriminating complaints, poor company reputation, and violent acts may occur as a result. Managers should be aware of such acts of discrimination, so that a solution is found before the issues become unmanageable. This issue was addressed in the past decades of America’s history. In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was enacted to get rid of severely embedded patterns of employment discrimination against persons because of their race, religion, sex, or national origin. Even now there still exist a strong opposition to enforcement of present laws and political opposition to counteractive fair hiring practices. .... Basically, when there was further research conducted on racial discrimination in the hiring process, there were continuous websites that rejected entrance and required passwords to enter. Thirdly, when this paper was assigned, there was a lack of research prior to writing the paper. After consulting with multiple librarians and there were still multiple obstacles for obtaining information. Receiving a sum of research from self-reported data may be flawed information at the time but later on during the paper, this information will be very important in structuring the paper and furthering research.

"Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the single most important piece of legislation that has helped to shape and define employment law rights in this country (Bennett-Alexander & Hartman, 2001)". Title VII prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, age, gender, disability, religion and national origin. However, it was racial discrimination that was the moving force of the law that created a whirlwind of a variety of discriminations to be amended into Title VII. Title VII was a striving section of legislation, an effort which had never been tried which made the passage of the law an extremely uneasy task. This paper will discuss the evolution of Title VII as well as the impact Title VII has had in the workforce.
In my opinion, it is important for private and public organizations to adopt and implement programs and laws to overcome the challenges in a diverse work environment. One of the laws that organizations follow are Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972. Institutions in the businesses sector are swarming in racial discrimination, much of which is covert and difficult to detect and prove. Racial discrimination excludes, marginalizes and exploits those citizens who are discriminated against, ceasing any opportunity for economic progress and development. Under certain regulations some businesses are required to diversify their workplace by hiring certain amounts of people of color, but in reality these small quotas do not do much for the overall condition of the people who are being discriminated against. Businesses that fail to take action on racial discrimination tend to have lower levels of productivity. This stems from employees not being interested in working hard, or because people with exceptional talents and skills choose to shy away from certain places of employment due to the fear of racial discrimination. Employees who feel wronged also tend to switch jobs, forcing the organization to spend more time and resources on hiring and training new employees, besides coping with the low productivity of a new employee. In today’s world, the American still has barriers to overcome in the matter of racial equality. Whether it is being passed over for a promotion at the job or being underpaid, some people have to deal with unfair practice that would prevent someone of color or the opposite sex from having equal opportunity at the job. In 2004, Dukes vs. Wal-Mart Stores Incorporation was a civil rights class-action suite that ruled in favor of the women who worked and did not received promotions, pay and certain job assignments. Introduction- Discrimination affects people all over the world. People of all ethnicities and from all different walks of life are influenced in some way by workplace discrimination. "Discrimination" means unequal treatment. One of the most common elements discriminated against is a persons ethnicity, or their race. This is called Racial Discrimination. While there are many federal laws concerning discrimination, most states have enacted laws that prohibit it. These laws may have different remedies than the federal laws and may, in certain circumstances be more favorable than the federal laws.
Discrimination can be defined as the unequal treatment of equal groups in workplace situations such as engagement, compensation, and promotion. There are two key notions of discrimination in relation to a workplace context;

The targets of the harassment are people who are usually perceived as “weaker” or “inferior” by the person who is harassing them. These discriminatory practices have been illegal since the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Civil Rights Act of 1964), and have been amended to be more inclusive of other people who experience discrimination by the Civil Rights Act of 1991 (The Civil Rights Act of 1991), and most recently, President Obama’s signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 (Stolberg, 2009).
