This Study presents research to investigate psychological predictors of cyber bulling behavior in adolescents. There is an assumption that lack of empathy and emotional problems could be related to cyber bulling and can prove certain predictors of cyber bulling behaviors. Cyber bulling is defined as repetitive harassment, torment, and humiliation through the use of internet and other digital technologies. Cyber bulling focuses on bulling by using the Internet or social media. There is no clear definition for cyber bulling. In this article, cyber bulling has 6 criteria. Deliberate, which focuses on the intention of the bully, such as the thoughts and planning of the bullying. Repetition, is repeating the bullying act more than once. A one-time post can be shared, and re-posted which is also a repetitive action. Powering imbalance, which is having a higher power, such as size, popularity, and knowledge. Time period on how long the bullying persist. The intention of the bully to hurt and the perception by the victim to be hurt. Approximately forty to fifty-five percent of students are involved in some way of cyber bulling, whether as a victim, a bully, or as an observer. The frequency of traditional bullying is higher than cyber bulling. Researchers investigated many factors of cyber bulling, and what motivates a bully. Studies found bullies are more likely to cyber bully because they can hide behind a screen and do not have to see the response of the victim. The impacts of cyber bullying are more emotional than physical, causing depression and/or suicide for the victim. There is a relationship between cyber bullies and social popularity; which weighs more towards females. Constantly being stuck to a computer or smart phone can lead to sleep deprivation and lack of personal relationships. Addictions stems from the rewards associated with internet and social media use. Compulsive use is one symptom of social media addiction. Addicts overuse the internet, cell phones, and other devices. Addicts have lower tolerance and must use more technology to get their “high.” They also have personal and health related problems as well as time management problems. They can go through withdrawal symptoms when unable to use technology and social media for too long. These symptoms include agitation, depression, and anxiety. An important aspect of addiction to technology is that it interferes with normal life. Consequences of technology addiction can be the same as with any other drug addiction. These include financial stress, job loss, and relationship problems. Sleep patterns are also affected. Binge watching television shows or playing games for extended periods of time reflect changes in sleep patterns. Physical consequences include lack of exercise, increased risk of carpal tunnel, and eye and back strain. Internet addiction functions similarly to drug addiction, in which it released rewarding chemicals in the brain.
