Poverty is in our own backyard. Poverty isn’t turning around a globe and looking toward third world countries for an example. Poverty is everywhere. Poverty is the children down the street who go to bed hungry each night filled only with emptiness. Poverty is my neighbor who had her heat shut off this past winter. However I believe that poverty is preventable.

The question is, what is poverty? Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic needs of life, including food, clothing, and shelter. There are many ways to reduce if not end poverty. Many organizations are focusing on this topic to get the most beneficial solutions. Two major organizations are the PLAN, and the UN (United Nations). United Nations is an intergovernmental organization established 24 October 1945 to promote international cooperation. PLAN is a global movement for change. It was founded in 1937, and is one of the world’s largest and oldest international development agencies. It works in about 70 countries around the globe. Poverty is passed from generation to generation. Some ways to break the cycle of poverty are.

I think quality education is essential to pass the phase of poverty in the world. With quality education, children will get the knowledge as well as the life skills required to get to know what their capable of achieving, and how to turn their life to the path which they want to go to. Some organizations like Teachers Resource Organization (TRC) helps in training teachers, building schools, paying for school requirements, and basic school necessities. Organizations like these also help in throwing down the barriers which prevent children from attending
