I’ve seen and heard my fair share of inspirational speakers, but never in a million years did I expect to hear someone like Even Brande talk in my college class. A spot on entrepreneurial example. Not that I’ve never talked to or listened to entrepreneurs before. Actually, both my parents are entrepreneurs. I can personally attest to Even’s teachings because my family teaches me the same values; I’ve grown up with it. I’ve seen my parents in the corporate world and in their own business world, which inspires me to be a boss in my own life, enjoying my life, and being able to make time for the important things in my life. She started out as a structural engineer, who was never paid what she was worth. She sacrificed most of her time to her wok and rarely had time for the family. Soon after some struggles, she had the opportunity to own her own business. After watching my mom transform in the business over the course of nine years, I’ve grown to love what she teaches: To enrich women’s lives, operate by the Golden Rule, and lastly, believe in God first, family second, and career third. My dad even opened up his own recruiting company after much encouragement from his friends and my mom. He saw the potential that it had to offer. I’ve seen him grow so much too. Their confidence levels had grown so much, and it reflects on all of us in the family. I enjoy the idea of continuous self-growth outside of college. Many don’t continue to learn once they graduate, but by owning your own business, you learn from all the situations you are placed in. From my mother’s and my father’s teachings and their examples, I am deeply passionate about owning my own business one day. I like the freedom and flexibility that entrepreneurship offers and the financial stability as well. Obviously my parents are doing, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. The reason I love coffee shops so much is that they act as a meeting place for people to come together. I love the fact that you can get so much work done in the environment, even when they get busy. I can combine my kindness with owning a coffee shop to make people’s day. That sometimes is the best blessing. If I can make someone’s day better in any way, shape, or form, I would. We often take little things for granted. Even a smile while you hand someone their cup of coffee can change their mood. Coffee is the second most imported commodity in the world next to petroleum oil, so the business isn’t going to die. I know that opening and owning my own business will give me money, and I’ll love what I do. The difference is building a brand for the business.
