Introduction With passage of time, especially in last few decades developed countries and now even developing countries are witnessing a growing trend diseases because of lifestyle. Such diseases which are often known as “Lifestyle diseases” are spreading across world like an epidemic. Major cause behind these diseases can be identified as unhealthy lifestyle which further comprises of lack of physical activity, substance abuse like frequent consumption of alcohol, tobacco, drugs etc. Such factors are driving up cases of diseases which are chronic in nature like diabetes, cardio-vascular issues and many other pulmonary conditions. Irony is that these diseases not just destroy an individual physically, but it also causes immense financial damage as treatment cost which goes into these diseases is huge over a prolonged period of time. Another interesting and alarming observation these days is, that chronic diseases which were initially considered as an issue with old-age people are now spreading across the younger generation as well. With current generation living a highly sedentary lifestyle, they become more and more vulnerable to such lifestyle diseases. Thus with above situation in mind, employers are actively involved in rapid adoption of health promotion programs aimed towards wellness of an employee. Which will ensure that he remains productive and lives a healthy lifestyle. Though this is more of concerned approach from employers, as employees spent most of their day working in the office, and these days working style has also become desk oriented which further causes many lifestyle diseases. Such programs conducted by employers or organization these days are termed as workplace wellness programs. Conclusion With increasing pressure of work, and professional life, workplace in current scenario is more or less like a second home to an individual. Thus it becomes important to understand that when an employee is putting so much effort in contributing towards achieving of organizational goal, then organization should also take sufficient steps to ensure wellness of its employees. This wellness covers both physical as well as mental. A Healthy lifestyle where an individual is free of any lifestyle disease, will ensure that, that person will put more effort in achieving both personal as well professional excellence. Ultimately wellness programs at workplace will lead to a more positive and vibrant environment which will impact the overall productivity of the organization.
