The understanding of the behavior from delinquents is built upon the explanations that have been offered and the findings that have, in research, been revealed. Juvenile delinquency is defined as a behavior of a young individual that has been characterized by antisocial behavior. This kind of behavior is normally more than what the parents can control. When this happens, the juvenile is subject to legal action. These “juveniles” are typically between the ages of 10 and 18 and they have usually committed some violation of the law. Instead of being referred to as crimes, the acts are considered delinquent acts. There are also numerous ways that juvenile proceedings differ from regular adult proceedings. Mainly this issue is due to factors of socio-economics. When children live in run down neighborhoods, come from broken homes, and live in poverty they are less likely to be participants of community activities. They are also less likely to attend school and be involved in programs that encourage them to stay off of the streets. If this study was conducted in the small town in which I am currently located, I would choose descriptive research. Descriptive research is the investigation that records what happens and describes the structure of the data that is recorded. This data does not attempt analysis of cause and effect (Dorsten & Hotchkiss, 2005). In this specific study I could gather data from different areas and communities where young people reside. I could go back to the past 10-20 years and analyze the data. I could use the y-axis as the years ranging from 1997-2017 and the x-axis could represent the percentage of arrest for delinquents. I would be able to retrieve the data information from local police departments and make a line or bar graph. If the study is conducted in a larger area, such as one where I grew up, I would use inferential study methods. I could conduct a random sample because I would not be able to collect all of the data needed from the larger area. Therefore, I would just target a certain population, by random selection and conduct my study that way. Regression analysis would also be another way that I could conduct this study using the data collected. This is an important step in the study that the researcher is conducting. My independent variable in this study is poverty. I would have to look at previous
