Education Argument
As I started to advance into my high school education, I noticed that my attitude about school and grades was not going to get me anywhere. I went to school and goofed off with my friends and did enough work to get a decent 70 on my work and go home. I had no “active responsibility”, as Freire would say, because I didn’t have anything to motivate me to want to do well. It all changed when I started high school at Bear Grass Charter School. Bear Grass had just reopened as a charter school my freshman year. I was a new beginning for me because not only was I starting out at a new school, but I started to realize that I needed to improve my self-effort in my classes. There wasn’t anybody in my class who cared about my teacher, Mrs. Parrish or what she was teaching or even about school in general. I thought it was just senioritis but when it came down to our senior projects, it was harder to know what our teacher expected out of us because everyone was talking and in their own little worlds. I finally got tired of not being able to hear Mrs. Parrish and got up to go and talk to her. One of Feynman’s students came up to him and mentioned that students would never ask questions because after class everybody would confront the student and question them with “What are you wasting our time in class for?” (Feynman pg. 71) I feel like I can relate because I found that the other students would judge me for asking a question. I felt this way because when I asked a question, all my classmates turned around and stared at me. As I asked Mrs. Parrish for help, she laid everything out for me and helped me in the ways she saw fit. As I started writing my essay, I wrote down everything she said to do and did it exactly how she said it. I first wrote a rough draft and Mrs. Parrish read over it and made corrections so that I could go back and fix it. When I got my rough draft back to start on my final draft, I barely had anything I needed to correct. I made a 98 on my essay and I think it was one of the highest in my class. I heard that a few of my classmates made low 60’s, 40’s and even zeros on the essay. I knew that they failed because they were not listening and my teacher had stated several times that once she went over it the first time that she won’t going over it again and that if we didn’t care, we would be back in twelfth grade again. I don’t remember what the percentages were but I knew that you had to do good on 3 of the 4 parts of our project to pass. I after senior projects were over, a group of my classmates were in the
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
Homeschooling is often portrayed as an overprotective mom - unwilling to let her kids leave her for a day at school, and a large number of children, all unable to hold a conversation, let alone function normally in society. As someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten through eighth grade, I can attest that my homeschool experience was the exact opposite of this confining stereotype.
The United States is a never-ending battleground for issues to fester. We as a group of people seem to only be happy when we are unhappy, and everything is open for conversation of improvement. Others can classify our society’s constant need for change and enhancement, as a curse or a blessing. Nonetheless, the education system in the United States is always a hot topic for people to discuss, as it has not been a success with all of its parties. Yet we strive for perfection as a society and as we do, we look at the groups of people that control the decisions made that influence the masses of students that progress through the system. Who can we blame? Is it the teachers union? Or, are the administrators failing these children? How about the school board? Well if it’s not any of these groups it has to be the government, right?
In May of 2006, Gallup Poll found that sixty-nine percent of Americans answered yes to the question "When a person has a disease that cannot be cured, do you think doctors should be allowed by law to end the patient's life by some painless means if the patient and his family request it?”. Assisted suicide is suicide committed by someone with assistance from another, usually a physician. Supporters of the Death With Dignity law believe that anyone should be able to take the lethal pill if he or she has a terminal illness and only has six months or less to live. This is legal in the three states of Oregon, Washington, and Montana. Assisted suicide should be legal in California.
Everyone is going to grow up, become adults, and receive responsibilities. Everyone needs a job or some form of revenue to provide for themselves and possibly other. Post-secondary helps people have better futures. Post-secondary education, in American society today, allows everyone with the ability to expand their individual knowledge and prepare them for a job after they have finished school.
Every day, more and more attempts of banning books and taking away the rights of our First Amendment get violated. The challenging of a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, and the banning is the removal of these materials. I believe that books should not be banned for these reasons.
The downfall of the US Public Education system is very concerning to me. A number of children are leaving the school system without the proper tools for them to be successful and productive. Over the years, schools have been victims of budget cuts; therefore, they are no longer able to supply children with sufficient and basic needs for success. There are several factors other than budget cuts that contribute to young adults leaving school without the proper tools for success.
Public School Systems are cheating American kids out of an education. A high school diploma indicates what students learn in achieving it, but in reality students have been learning and earning greatly less as the years have gone by. As a former public school student myself, I know we are not given the same opportunities are students in private schools. Public school students have been told that the reason our education is limited is because of funding but in the video it states that public school spend more money than private schools and still not have a better outcome. More money hasn’t improved schools. So, what’s the real problem?
Homeschooling still has lots of unknowns for Socialists. There is some research Sociologist use that can gage if homeschooling is better for a child or worse. Homeschooling had a rough start. Was peoples lack of trust in public schooling that started homeschooling movement. Parents do not want to share information for research due to the lack of trust between them and the government. The number of children homeschooled children that enter into college and excel with their grade point averages is amazing. Homeschooling gives the child the freedom to move through school at their own pace. The childes ability to self-teach themselves at their own pace while exceling over the public-school counterpart is amazing.
Education is meant to be the key to a successful life. It is supposed to inspire great ideas, and prepare each and every generation for their future. However, school for today 's generation fails to meet those requirements. Every student knows education is important, but when school is not engaging or in some cases, even relevant, it makes learning difficult. Improving the school system is something educators attempt to accomplish every year. Despite their best efforts, there are numerous flaws students see, but adults overlook. There is a lack of diversity for students to learn, an overabundance of testing, and students’ voices are being ignored on how to create a more productive learning experience.
Today, many parents across the nation are choosing to homeschool their children. A U.S. Department of Education’s report shows that approximately 1.5 million children were being homeschooled in 2007 (Lips, and Feinberg). This is almost 3 percent of all school age children (Lips, and Feinberg). A private researcher, the National Home Education Research Institute, estimates 2.5 million children were being homeschooled in the 2007 – 2008 academic years (Lips, and Feinberg). Either way, homeschooling is growing drastically every year.
Education is one of the greatest determinants. Relatively simply, the more schooling people have the better their health is likely to be. Though closely linked to income and occupation, the evidence indicates education exerts the strongest influence on health. This has been demonstrated in multiple facets over the past forty years. For instance, further formal education displays a frequent correlation with lower death rates; less education the opposite. In addition, studies show higher levels of risky health behaviors such as smoking and obesity, to be associated with less schooling (Freudenberg & Ruglis, 2007). As such, finishing secondary school has become a useful measure of educational attainment due to its influence on health.
Imagine a family, a family that has it all. Good neighborhood, schooling, and robust health. Everything seems to be going right for this family, then all of a sudden one event changes the course of their future forever. The father makes a poor business investment which causes the family to loose their savings. Now that all of the savings are gone and they are living off check to check, they need to cut back on wasteful spending. The kids may need to attend a lower public school than the normal private school they once attended, thus causing them not to learn or advance at a level that they once could. Within the span of what could be not more than a year or two, this family has went from having a stable life to a family that is on the verge
Before, the education system used to have the best interest of children but instead it seems as if the professionals who work for the system cares more about the job qualifications than the true value of education and how well the people are attaining it. Public education uses to led the road to success, but after going through thirteen years of it and seeing what the public education system is all about, people have come to realize that it only affect others later on in life negatively.
Education is a very powerful key to success in modern day American society. More often than not, a person will not be able to find a decent job unless they have graduated from a reputable college with a degree. Because of this change in society, it has brought a lot of pressure by parents for their child to graduate and get a degree. A lot of those who graduate with a degree are not always the best candidate for the job, and even with the degree, they are not even always guaranteed a job. But personally, getting an education shouldn’t be as big of a deal, as it is now. Back in the day, most people did not go to college, none the less graduated from high school; yet they still made it through and learned lots of things from their jobs that they acquired.
