The following paper will discuss family and attempt to demonstrate the personal meaning of family from my own experiences and reflect on my individual views of family. I will apply current theoretical and statistical perspectives, as discussed in the literature. Firstly, I will explain my personal family dynamics growing up as well as in the present. I grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and remained here for most of my life. I grew up in a traditional family with parents and siblings up until my parents divorced my senior year of high school. At this time, the family structure changed from a nuclear family to a single parent family. 20). The experiences of family I have personally felt could be described as evolving and changing over the years. I will include pictures of those family members who are an influential part of my life and positive role models. I will start by describing the family pictures, as represented in appendix A. The three pictures included represent the evolving changes in our family. The first photo represents my immediate family, which includes my husband and two sons. I also have to include our family dog, as he is also a big part of our family unit. This picture represents those immediate family members that remain close and special in my life. Of the three sources of theory, family social science theories are the best developed and informative about family phenomena; examples of such theories include the following: family function, the environment-family interchange, interactions and dynamics within the family, changes in the family over time, and the family’s reaction to health and illness(Kaakinen et al., 2015, p. 70).
