Not everyone’s lives are easy to begin with. Some people come from generally rich families who can afford to go on summer vacations every year; some people can barely get through the month because of the amount of bills they have to pay. Being a part of this lower-class spectrum has definitely been a stepping stone for me and my family. Coming to America from the Philippines was merely a small hop rather than a jump to obtain what we have at this current moment. My relatives say it’s luck, that they have me, a working scholar, to help my loving parents bring them their future. It’s not luck; it’s hard work. The days of realization in which I know my purpose in life is to tell my mom and dad, “I made it,” drives me to where I am today.
I see my life as a tree with dozens of branches, constantly growing and thriving to be the biggest trunk in a forest. Although there are times in which leaves fall, it’s always replaced with another, perhaps an even more magnificent one. Until I was in sixth grade, no one ever told me that liking another girl was actually a part of human nature. I brushed it off, thinking it was because of admiration.
