My career choice is becoming a Register Nurse. I have been working in the medical field for 28 years. I experienced many levels of nursing and decided it’s what I want to become. Registered Nurses provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about different health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their families. I will explain my experiences and the outlook of being a Registered Nurse. My first job working in the medical field was working a Nursing home with Alzheimer residents. Some conversation makes you think twice about becoming a nurse, but I’m not going to get discouraged. Nursing is not for everybody. You have to have passion, heart and patients. In this day and time nursing has changed so much from the care of patients to the attitude that I see all the time. In my interviews, nurses all wish they would have gotten into something else different, because its among the top ten of the highest paid jobs and easy to get into, they need to care for their families. Nursing has become more of a convenience rather than having the attitude in taking care of people. I have seen young ladies come out of nursing school and come to the hospital work on the floor and it is too much so they quit. I remember way back when nursing was a well respected field to get into. Nurses really care about the welfare of their patients. They wore white uniforms that represent cleanliness and purity. Now being a nurse sometimes means being disrespected by patients and family members. In my interviews I got nothing but disappointments about being a nurse. After finishing up term one of my nursing career, I can officially say I feel nursing is most definitely the profession I have been searching for. I have had an amazing experiences and practice by going to clinical which helped me improve upon my nursing skills and EOP SLO. It can be seen, being prepared, maintain professionalism and safe practice, having exceptional communication, respecting culture, adapting care across the lifespan, promoting health education, and having an admirable nursing process were all valued and demonstrated by me.

Emily graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in May 2015, and got a job at Fairview East Bank Hospital. A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. All my life I have always wanted to be a nurse. Since I was younger I can recall playing with stethocopes. I have four siblings so my parents paying for my education has never been an option for me. That having said I became a Medical Assistant. Becoming a medical assistant has been a great blessing in my life. I have been able to work with patients, while going to school but I am ready to further my education. I want to be able to provide patients with medications, IV's, and many other skills that will put my full knowledge to use. From an early age, I can remember being interested in the way the human mind and body work. The way they coincide together and how one can affect the other. With these two things being the subjects that I was most interested in one can assume that I would choose psychology or nursing as my career path. Becoming a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner would be my dream job because it combines the 2 things that drive me the most psychology and nursing.
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted to become a pilot. It was my dream job, every time I looked up and saw an airplane I was intrigued by the plane soaring through the air. I always pictured myself being in that airplane not only as a passenger but, as the pilot. As I grew older my passion for flying strengthened, I looked for ways to turn this passion into something more. I took multiple exploratory flights, I also stayed at EAA Academy Lodge for a week, and logged many flight hours throughout the course of two years. Not only did I have a blast doing these activities, I also learned so much from them. I am ready to take my education to a further level and progress towards becoming a professional pilot/aviator.

The career i chose is a branch of the medical field. I chose a career in nursing, more specifically the career path of a registered nurse. This career consists of providing care for people of all ages and helping them with managing their conditions. I chose this career because my mother is an rn and my family has a strong presence in the medical field. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills, or talents needed, salary, benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
First, I would like to start by stating that my expectation of a nurse is that he or she must be a good communicator, emotionally strong, empathetic, patient and calm, pay attention to detail and have good physical endurance. I feel that I possess these qualities which would make me very successful as nurse in the future.
