56 billion animals like cows, chickens, pigs, fish, and other meat animals are slaughtered every year for human consumption. Many of those animals are raised and slaughtered under inhumane conditions. These companies in the meat food production industry, that house these animals in overcrowded huge stock barns until they are fat enough to be inhumanly slaughter, are the companies that make millions of dollars. The pollution that these factory farms put into our air are very harmful to us and so are the different chemicals these animal’s meat contain. These companies feed animals food with different herbicide and pesticide chemicals in them and the animals are given different antibiotics to keep them alive. Without pastures and without shelter, the cows must stand in mud, ice, and their own waste. These beef cattle don 't live very long, just long enough to fatten them up and sell. Cattle can live up to 25 years, but beef cattle are generally killed at just one to three years of age. Dairy cows go through tough times as well. They live in concrete floored sheds overcrowded with dairy cows. These dairy cows are susceptible to udder infections and deceases. They are locked into stalls until they finish eating and then sent to be milked and the next day they do it all over again. The reason they produce milk is for there offspring so to keep them producing milk they artificially inseminate the cows. Once their young is born within a few days is taken and depending on its gender is either sent, if it’s female, to be the next generation of milking cows or, if it’s a male sent to the beef slaughterhouse to be made into veal. Once they are at just two to five years of age, their milk production has slowed or they are too crippled or ill to continue in the industry.
