Interior design dates all the way back to the time of ancient Egyptians and Romans.They decorated their homes with multiple pieces of furniture, sculptures, murals, and other beautiful artwork as we do today. In the 15th and 16th century during the Renaissance, artwork played a huge role in interior design. Architects and crafters created spaces with “elaborate, decorative elements” (“A Brief History Of Interior Design”) using marble, woodwork, furniture and the finest pieces of art. To become an interior designer it is recommended to have computer, organization, communication, coordination, multi-tasking, marketing, calculating, creative and problem solving skills. All of these skills will help any person looking to become an interior designer have a better understanding of the job.
In high school, people who are pursuing a career in interior design, should consider taking classes such as art, family and consumer science, and communication and business. Being able to work with different art forms and learning how to add up the costs of a project is a few tips that will help you, later on in your career.
