School Uniforms A group of small boys and girls all wearing the same colored school uniforms assembled in front of a catholic school is what I imagine when thinking about school uniforms. This is probably what most people imagine. They have been attached to students of European and private schools. Such pictures of students dressing in school uniforms have led to stereotyping and a negative attitude towards schools enforcing a uniform policy. Displayed as robots without the ability to express them selves in a society that says you must express yourself and be an individual at all cost. The problem is that the cost to express yourself and be an individual is high in some cases, in Detroit, a 15-year-old boy was killed for his $86 basketball shoes (Tweeters 1997). I believe that cost is too high; it would be better to be laughed at and teased about wearing a nerdy uniform, than to be shot by some gang member that did not like the color of the pants I am wearing. School uniforms have been the cause of many jokes and harassment to those who wore them. In the past, public schools considered uniforms old and out dated trends, though recently many public schools are starting to implement and enforce a uniform policy. The implementation of a school uniform policy is important if we are still striving to improve our students. The arguments against them are fading while the positive reasons are promoting school uniforms and gaining ground. Some of the possible benefits are safety, cost, uniformity and competition in academics instead of fashions. The main argument against them is the need for students to express their individual selves; this argument is losing ground compared to the benefits of the uniform policy. Today many public sch... ... middle of paper ... ...nforcing the policy as well as what punishment would occur. Finding out what the parents and students think and involving them before the final starting date. They might try to find out what the student’s favorite color or type of material they want to use. They might even look at having some variety maybe two different colors. This way the students will feel included in the decisions and might not fight the policy, making the discipline problem smaller because they would be less likely to rebel. A financial study should be conducted prior to the policy to determine how much burden is going to be imposed on the school itself, how many students would require financial assistance with the cost of the uniforms. By keeping the primary stakeholders involved with the decisions prior to making the policy, schools have a better chance of success from the uniform policy.
It is a great idea for schools to implement a policy on school uniforms because statistics show that students who wear uniforms make better grades, the male students are not going to be distracted by what the female students are (or aren't) wearing, and students feel a sense of fairness with one another as they are all wearing the same things and when students are at one with one another their confidence soars, which leads to doing better at school. Student uniforms helps with reducing the amount of bullying therefore the students who would normally be bullied now have a much better disposition while at school, which will lead to a healthier safer learning environment. When students feel less threatened at school, they can concentrate better which leads to better grades. The schools which have an enforced uniform policy have properly dressed students. When teenage girls, want to impress teenage boys dress inappropriately it causes a lot of distractions and trouble. The girls are also envious of on one another so unrest is caused in the classroom throughout the day, not only with the boys who are looking at the girls, but also at the girls who are jealous of the ones getting the attention.
Students are becoming more concerned with what they are wearing and they are being distracted from the learning process. Although many students are not happy with the strictness some of the school’s new uniform policies, the policies should stay in place in order to increase school safety, devote student’s attention to learning and reduce bullying and peer pressure.
Ever wonder what it would look like to have all students wearing the same white polo shirt, black pants, and a district sweater walking in the hallway? Nowadays, public school and many districts are discussing the possibilities of enforcing the uniform policy. In most places, many private schools already require students to have their mandatory uniforms; however, there are only a few public schools adopting this mandatory school-uniform polices as one of their enrollment requirements. The reason why not all public schools participated was because people believe that they are violating the freedom of choice when enforcing this mandatory uniform policy; yet problems such as bullying and segregation, emerged in these schools. Some people still think uniforms have no benefits at all. However, all public school students should be required to wear uniforms because it would improve the academic performance, reduce the violent behaviors based on appearance judgment, and provide less stress for both parents and students.
The debate over the use of school uniforms in public schools is one that has raged on for decades, and still hasn’t come to a conclusion. School uniforms are increasingly being enforced in public schools throughout the country, amidst a slew of opposition. Some people believe that school uniforms do not help our schools and their students, but hurt the schools and smother the student’s freedom. More specifically, some schools in the Greeley/Evans School District 6 have adopted school uniforms to try and improve the respective schools problems while some schools haven’t adopted uniforms. This leads people to question, should the Greeley-Evans School District adopt a school uniform policy?
The argument whether uniforms should be implemented in school has been debated over the last few decades. By implementing a uniform policy within schools would help reduce the rise of violent crimes. In today’s high schools, too many innocent youths become fatalities due to gang warfare that has spread into the school system. Many parents feel that if a uniform policy was implemented , the spread of gang warfare and the idea that children have to have name brand clothing would decrease drastically. However others are worried that this policy would infringe on students First Amendment Rights with expressing themselves. Many parents are worried that the uniforms will cost too much and they will only burden their economic status. Uniforms will either give the school strength or separate the students and parents from the administration.
School uniforms have always been a topic of interest for me since fifth grade when my school merged with another and I had the possibility of adopting their uniform policies. Up until researching this topic I have always thought uniforms were a terrible idea because they were just ugly and looked uncomfortable. So with my argument paper of course I wrote about how uniforms are a bad idea. After reviewing all of my research I did in order to write this paper I came to the conclusion that uniforms actually make so much sense to me now. This could be because I am lazy and like that I wouldn’t have to make any decisions. I have also encountered many peers who do wear uniforms and after hearing their opinions and tolerance for them I began to wish I was exposed to that growing up. So I have done full research into both sides, while switching sides a few times as I created a solid outline. Currently I feel that uniforms offer a safe and united community that encourages the individual and self growth.
One of the greatest controversies that is spreading throughout high schools in the United States is parents and their children against the enforcement of their school’s uniform policy. More schools have been adopting uniform policies within the past decade. Rules contained in the policy that are implemented range from wearing certain types of tops (shirts) in specified colors to students being required to tuck in their shirts. In the past, uniforms were exclusively for students who attended private schools because they were “well-off”, but now uniforms are being seen more frequently in public schools on students of all economic levels. Having gone through a school system that considered adopting a uniform policy, I would have to press
In society today, school-age children are under tremendous pressure to fit in with their peers and still perform well academically. I believe that school uniforms at pre-K through high school levels are an excellent way to help children succeed not only in school, but to prepare them for college and the “real world.” Three reasons why I believe school uniforms should be used in all schools is first, they are economic, next, they reduce distractions and finally, they help with social equality. To begin, school uniforms are economic. When schools have a uniform policy, it makes it easier on the children and parents.
In summation, I don’t feel that school uniforms are necessary at this juncture in time. Sure, one school district has seen positive results, but can these results be contributed to a single factor called school uniforms? Extremely doubtful in my mind. Besides, school uniforms while making everyone look alike and boosting esteem in this manner, do not eliminate the socioeconomic differences between students. Therefore, there will always be a distinction between students. Uniforms may decrease the distinction but individuality is what makes America the land of opportunity. Individuality is what America is all about. If you can’t find who you are and express yourself for the entire world to see while living or spending time in America, you are doing something wrong. Preventing this would be a horrible national crime; it would be un-American.
Overall, enforcing the policy of school uniforms would have and has negative effects on students and their families. School uniforms should not be required or enforced in school and the extra expenses should be cut from the bills of the students being forced to wear them
However, most public schools already have guidelines in place stating that definite colors shouldn’t be worn to school, in areas where this would be an issue - so what has a uniform really unravel? If the students aren't dressed in those colors to begin with, then why do we feel the need to enforce uniforms? I essentially think that when these testimonies are truly investigated, we find that neither is an acceptable argument for harmonization making our schools safe and sound. If everyone on the educational site dress in the same thing, would it not stand to rationalize that any citizen who wanted to in... ... middle of paper ... ...
Uniforms in public schools are becoming accepted throughout the world. The public school systems would benefit significantly if this policy were to be accepted. Wearing uniforms in public schools result in positive effects.
When you think about the word uniform, what’s the first thing that comes to you? You might think of a police officer, nurse, doctor or maybe even someone in the military, but what about uniforms for school? Today, there are more schools that are now considering switching to uniforms to keep things professional and equal to all students, but, is it really fair to make restrictions to students on wanting to be able to express themselves personally? Students might feel that they are being restricted on the freedom to be able to express who they are but schools believe that the safety and security of the student’s body should be more important than just expressing their own styles. Now, the school systems are struggling more each day to try to
Introduction: The motion brought before the house today is “All schools should enforce the wearing of school uniforms from primary 1 to secondary 4.” This is a topic that is hot on the lips of educators, students and parents. School uniforms are a specific set or group of school-standardised clothing. If we look at America, only private and non-government run schools that institute the wearing of school uniforms. In Hong Kong, most schools require their students to wear school uniforms. My team is definitely in favour of schools having their students wear school uniforms. My teammates and I will demonstrate to you that the benefits brought by the wearing of school uniforms far outweigh any perceived disadvantages. Our first main argument, which will be explained by Brian, is that enforcing school uniforms in all schools will lift school spirit greatly. Justine will discuss our second argument, being that school uniforms reduce the amount of bullying. The fourth speaker, Ray, will debate about casual clothing distracting students. Finally, Joyce will summarise our arguments, convincing you, without a doubt, that school uniforms MUST be enforced in all schools.
With uniforms, it may restrict the desire for students to dress themselves to impress or stand out. Wearing something they are comfortable with and what they love may increase their confidence level and not curb their creativity. Sometimes when students had to obey the rules and regulations, they might feel locked up inside as they cannot really express themselves. This case can lead to several discipline cases as a student can act aggressively since they think the need to wear uniforms will cut off their
