A former classmate of mine that graduated and moved on to college told me that senior year is the easiest year of high school. I disagree. So far, senior year has challenged me more than any year by far. It is easy for me to say that senior year has started slightly different than originally anticipated. However, it is gearing me towards a second semester I will never forget. Motivation and grades contribute to the ways in which my final year of high school has differed from my original visions, while how fast the year is going does not surprise me in the slightest. Coming into the year thinking that I would need motivation to finish just the first semester of my senior year never crossed my mind. I assumed this year would be no different
As young girl with big dreams I imagined my senior year of high school to be one of the best years of my life. I imagined going to homecoming with all of my friends, being the captain of the varsity soccer and cheerleading teams, going to Friday night football games, going to Prom with my perfect date, and going on a senior trip with all of my best friends. I never imagined my senior year to be the way that it is. I am the new kid.
Middle School is ending and it's almost time to start the next chapter of my life- high school. High school is often depicted as dramatic and stressful, both of which I expect it to be. I have many things I am eager for, many things I am not eager for, and many expectations.

To this point I have wrote about a lot of fun things I have done throughout high school, but that was just the PG version. Sophomore year is when things really began to heat up. One day over at Alex’s we found the key to his parents liquor cabinet. We did exactly what 15 year old guys would do, took some sips and wow did we think we were badasses. Looking back opening the cabinet taking a few sips and locking it back up really quick was quite comical. One night during Sophomore year it was Alex, Cal, and I, Alex drank a lot and we started to walk around town (no license yet). We walked around town for a long time with Alex’s sloppy ass. Walking into Walnut Hills High School right now would have anyone thinking the just walked into the middle of a tornado. Everyone you look there are students running in and out of doors, in and out of cars, and most certainly either turning in missing assignments or retaking tests. There is only one way for you to explain all this ciaos, Senior Year, the year that all teens await with so much excitement and ambition and the year that every single hour long study dates pays off. For the class of 2021 this isn’t just their final year at Walnut Hills this is the year that friends separate and head off to their different university to follow their dreams.
As an upcoming senior you will think that your senior year will be stress less. But that not the case it will be filled with work on top of work. During my senior year I didn't think senioritis was real until I have to actually do work I didn't feel like doing . Once I got to the second quarter I was completely check out and ready to graduate. As a senior myself I didn't do some of my homework, I was getting low test scores, and not coming to school. Senioritis is real and after the first quarter you will feel like it's no purpose. So it's important to stay motivated and avoid laziness.
I was told that this, my junior year, would be the easiest year of my high school career. And no, they were absolutely wrong. It was not just school and grades that I was concern about either. I had other things to worry about, things like, driving, clubs, friends and family. I however had no idea that it would be this difficult. Throughout this school year I have learned many things; like the value of sleep, whose really your friend, and that although very important, grades are not everything.
I am determined to set reachable goals, accomplish what I plan to do, stay focus and determined and mainly, to find myself and to know my purpose. Senior year comes with joy but is partnered with heartbreak. I will have to face many challenges, some seeming impossible to come over, but I will stay determined and will persevere. I will not let my senior year get the best of me. I plan to give it my all and make memories that will last a lifetime. Also, senior year is known to set off plenty of emotions, in which I will be victim of. “For senior year is for the tears. Facing the fears. Loudening the cheers. You find out how close you are to some, and how far away you are from others. You’ll have your lasts and get ready for the firsts. Then look back on it and remember it forever.” - Unknown.
Walter Kirn successfully unearths some of the worst aspects of senior year. However, these reasonings are not sound enough to condone the discontinuation of it. Any issues found are the fault of the student or the school administration, not the grade level itself. Senior year is worth holding on to for both the persistence of learning and for solidifying relationships. Kirn mentions with pleasure his choice to leave high school early. Nonetheless the four year high school experience should not be demoralized by those who wish to value it for the irreplaceable opportunity it is.
There are numerous of things to look forward to your senior year. Freedom, early dismissal, late arrival, homecoming week, college acceptance letters, and graduation. I was always reminded to be aware of this senior disease called senioritis, a case of laziness your senior year, but I was not told to be aware of tears and torture. The first day I walked through Ridge Spring Monetta High School doors as a senior, I felt like a target. Eyes turned into laser beams straight for my heart. I was blindsided, I did not know where this hatred came from. Smiles turned into frowns, but I believe even with a damaged hurt and red watery eyes, I still came out on top.
My high school experience was different from most in the sense that I was enrolled in an early college program. This meant earning dual credit and graduating with a high school diploma, an associate’s degree, and the chance to enroll at a four-year university as any typical high school student would. This also meant finding a new mode of transportation since the community college served as the high school campus and the only working car in the family was my father’s way to get to work. We met with the school principal on numerous occasions to discuss this issue and see what could be done, but it looked like this was going to be one opportunity I would be unable to take advantage of — I even missed the orientation week for incoming freshmen
Sophomore year was an easy going year compared to my other years before and after. Sophomore year was a year where I thought of my dreams and future. Even though I haven’t participated in any school clubs, I still felt fulfilled. Sophomore year was a year filled with new challenges.
Have you ever been so nervous for a big event that was only a couple of days away ? What about the moment you have been waiting for your whole life ? I have , that big moment was my high school graduation.The best moment of my life and also the scariest. It took a lot of preparation to get me ready such as the perfect dress, the perfect hairstyle , and building the self conscious up to go.
When I first started the semester about four to five months ago, I still had the mindset of a teenager. I had to realize that this is not high school anymore it is college. Unfortunately, that came with a price to pay early into the semester. My grades began to start slipping. Everything started to go down the hill quickly. I brought this upon myself, and it was my job to fix this. I had to learn how to get out of the teenage mindset and transition to become an adult. That is what was blocking my way to becoming the person I wanted to be.
My high school experience has been a very challenging and exciting 4 years. I have learned many things that will help me in life and I feel confident that I am ready for whatever obstacle I may face. My senior year of high school…I want to enjoy people’s company, appreciate my family’s presence, and keep a permanent Polaroid of my “home town” etched in my memory. I have a purpose for the year, I know what I want to accomplish for the future, but I have to remember to make the most out of today because there may not always be a tomorrow.
