*Illegal immigration is the migration of people across the national border in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country.* Illegal immigration is a controversial issue that is dividing our society and its presence can only be reconciled with proper regulation and monitoring by our government. *The Department of Homeland Security estimated that 11.4 million illegal aliens were living in the United States in 2012 (DHS, March 2013).* Some favor the idea of granting amnesty while others want a wall built on the United States and Mexican border. According to ‘The Wall Street Journal’, ninety six percent of people believe that since illegal immigrants fill low wage jobs that are often hard to be filled with Americans, it benefits the economy more than it harms (Monthly Economic Forecasting Survey, 2006). (CE) As John Constable (2015) explains, most remain concentrated in lower-skilled, low-paying jobs, “much more so than US born workers,” as found by Pew Research Center. (E) Without the presence of illegal immigrants the low paying and physical labor jobs, such as housekeeping, landscaping, and groundskeepers, would not be filled as easily. The pros of illegal citizens is highly outweighed by the cons. Not only do they cost working US citizens hard earned money, they are also taking advantage of the privileges legal citizens are given by living in the United States. It is ultimately not fair that they are given most of the same rights as those living in the US legally or those who have become legal citizens through the proper steps required. Of course, this is a huge issue to conquer and deporting them is not the best option due to the fact that you would be splitting up innocent children from their parents.
