I believe I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to grow up in Smallville, USA, in a home where my parents have instilled in me the principle that there is a service requirement beyond our immediate household. Realizing what has been provided for me by my parents, my church and my community, I want to use my college degree to serve my community.
Not only have my parents modeled before me that we are to volunteer our time and services as citizens to make our community a better place to live, but they have always encouraged me to become involved in church and community activities. Therefore, church and community service, which I feel are inseparable for a thriving community where people desire to live and raise families, have become a way of life for me.

Nat Turner is the most famous and most controversial slave rebel on American history. He was living in the innocent season of his life, in those carefree years before the working age of twelve when a slave boy could romp and run about the plantation with uninhibited glee. Nat in his young years cavorted about the home place as slave children did generally in Virginia. He was first lived in Turner's house, who owned a modest plantationin a remote neighborhood "down county" from Jerusalem. His daytime supervisor was his grandmother, Old Bridget- who regaled the boy with slave tales and stories from the Bible. Nat had become very attached to his grandmother. The Turners had become Methodists, who held prayer services on their farm and took the blacks to Sunday chapel. Among such slaves were Nat's grandmother and his mother, Nancy, a large, spirited, olive-skinned young American, imported to North America before 1808, to toil as bondsman on farms and plantations there. By the time Nat was four or five years old, Nancy was extremely proud of him. Bright-eyed and quick to learn, he stood out among the other children. He never touched liquor, never swore, never played practical jokes and never cared a thing for white people's money. Being a Methodist, the old Master not only approved of Nat's literacy but encouraged him to study the Bible. The preachers and everybody else in the boy's world all remarked that he had too much sense to be raised in bondage, that he " would never be of any service to anyone as a slave.
The slave revolt that took place in Southampton, Virginia and this was when black slaves overthrew their white masters. Nat Turner was an Africa American solder born October 2, 1800 in Southampton County. Nat Turner was a rebellion leader. Turner had a vison that god wanted him to kill all whites. On the day of August 22, 1831 started the revolt, limiting rights for blacks, and the confessions of Nat Turner.
One of the most successful slave rebellion in history was the Nat Turner’s Rebellion. Nat Turner was a very religious slave, a preacher, who led a bloody attack on slavery that occurred in Southampton, Virginia in the year of 1831. Turner planned his rebellion after experiencing prophetic visions. The key goal of the rebellion led by Nat Turner was to gain his freedom from slavery. Turner’s revolt killed as many of 50 whites which occurred on August 21,1831. Turner had nearly 70 slaves with him as they moved from house to house killing the white society. The rebellion was so corrupt that it took a military to take down Turner’s rebellion. Turner and nearly 55 other enslaves were captured and executed by the state of Virginia. The outcome of Nat Turner rebellion triggered the whites to reinforce laws for states making things illegal for the black society. Led by Nat Turner, rebel slaves killed anywhere from 55 to 65 people, the highest number of fatalities caused by any slave uprising in the American South. I find myself extremely passionate in Community Service, I have volunteered at Emmanuel Apostolic Church during Vacation Bible School for the past two summers, preparing food, coming up with creative ideas to keep children occupied, and making sure children are safe. During this time my leadership and conversational skills have strengthened. In addition to that, I have also volunteered there on numerous occasions to feed the homeless. In high school, I also volunteered at an Elderly home on bingo night to interact with the elderly, gave a listening ear, it was extremely rewarding to see them smile, laugh, and interact with me as if they had known me for a while; that showed me how much they appreciate having company. I am dedicated to helping out our community and school, because it warms my heart and soul. Seneca said in about 40 to 60 A.D. that you should “be silent as to services you have rendered, but speak of favors you have received.” In other words you should not boast about the numerous projects you have accomplished and how much physical work you executed, but rather pride yourself on how you helped people in community and school, and how you have affected their lives with positive means. I feel life is joyous and it should be the feeling everyone illustrates, and this is exactly what keeps me functioning in the stressful world today. I find comfort in helping others to make their lives a little more like heaven and this comfort motivates me to perform copious service projects to the best of my capability whenever I find the time. Time is fair to the rich, the poor, and to every race, because time is equal and gives everyone 24 hours daily to accomplish their required tasks. Because time is so valuable and I am occupied by difficult advanced placement and honor classes and juggle school, clubs, sports, and friends, I joined Key Club, a high school division of the adult service club, Kiwanis. Key Club opened new doors to make every extra minute count towards helping others.
When I first started getting involved in community service, it was simply to fulfill my obligations for NHS and the other service organizations I was involved with. I was ignorant of the fact that service activities are needed in the community. Not only that, they can be both fulfilling and helpful to the beneficiaries of the service.
A huge problem is, a lot of people can not afford food, health care products, and necessities. As I became older I became more aware. I had to do community service, so I started to volunteer at the VFW. Going started out by force, but as I kept volunteering, I started to enjoy it. It has been three years now, and I love going and helping every other monday night.
Volunteering and Community Service are my passion. I believe they create and instill a sense of compassion and empathy for others, values I embody in my life and teaching. My passion for volunteering is a the heart of my job at John Paul II. There is something about helping other people, or the community in general, that I love. I did well above the amount of community service needed to apply for the National Honor Society, and I did it all because I like to do it. Firstly, I chose to complete my sixteen hours of community service through my church, Spring Creek Baptist Church, and an elderly assistance program called Meals on Wheels. At my church, I did janitorial work, primarily cleaning the kitchen and sanctuary. I would say the reason I chose my church to complete my community service hours was because it has played a major role in my life and been a place that I felt safe. Going to this church has always been a sort of sanctuary for me and something about just being there relaxes me. A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. I used to hate community service. I only did it if it was a requirement for graduation or for a program. Even when I did community service, I still waited until the very last opportunity to do it.
