Haute Cubism

When designing a high-end boutique one should always keep in mind the experience the designer wants to provide the shopper. An overall design concept is important in developing a cohesive look for the retail space. Certain aspects of retail design can be very critical and should be thought highly through. For example, the lighting must not be severe and should be carefully chosen to highlight the clothing in the most exquisite way. The atmosphere should emote a cohesive balance between enticing and relaxing. This can be achieved from the furnishings and fixtures to the placement of product and display of clothing. Lastly the client must leave feeling nostalgic and should be planning his or her next visit. The concept chosen for this project will be a mixture of influences from the 20th century art movement known as Cubism and the similarities between Picasso and Avant-Garde designer, Martin Margiela.

Cubism is a 20th century Avant-Garde art movement, originated by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, which revolutionized European Art. The influence of cubism could be seen everywhere from paintings to sculptures and even music, literature and architecture. Cubism and its philosophies can also be seen in the change of a world view that focused on unitary, Eurocentric and egocentric to that of views based on multiple perspectives. Cubism can be broken down into two different phases, the first, lasting from 1907 to 1911 is known as Analytical Cubism and can be recognized by different characteristics. Analytical Cubism can be recognized by a monochromatic color palette, especially cool neutrals. Artists during this period used very little color. ...erials, with sharp angled furniture and enticing cold colors create a juxtaposition that is similar to that created by Picasso and other Cubist artists. Like Picasso and all other artists, the main journey is creating a dimensional piece that develops and explains angst, joy, love and every other emotion that is used in creating masterpieces. I believe my space creates just that; a space filled with wearable art that tell stories of emotions.
