On April 14, 2017 my mom and I visited the Montclair Art Museum. Upon entering, I observed the beautiful neoclassical architecture and roman cathedral like columns outside of the museum. Located on Bloomfield Ave, just miles from New York City, the Montclair Art Museum holds some of the best American and Native American art works. The different galleries and collections along with the breathtaking sculptures, paintings, and carvings added to my positive experience and I look forward to further exploring the world of art. The white walls of the museum came to life by the art works on and surrounding them. The room was set up by having paintings on the walls with a sculpture directly in the center. This was the focal point of the room, Soundsuit, by Nick Cave. This piece was rich in color and character and I was immediately drawn to it. When I rounded the corner of the gallery there were many extravagant pieces such as Untitled #8 (2014) by Mickalene Thomas and Woman Under Willow (2014). Both pieces are inspired by Matisse, rich in color, and represent woman. The American gallery does a good job transitioning from one piece to another because each work is similar in some aspects. This gallery was less organized and different mediums were presented all throughout. There was a traditional quilt, Tar Beach 2 (1990) displayed in the same area as mediums such as wooden panels, oil pastel, and the metal hood of a car. This gallery and collection inspired by Matisse displayed many breathtaking works that I enjoyed seeing.
My overall experience at the Montclair Art Museum was very positive and I enjoyed observing different works of art. It was interesting to see the different mediums and themes used for different works of art. Based on what we discussed in class and the formal analysis’ completed, I was able to deeply analyze all the works seen. I plan to continue visiting museums and galleries when ever I have the
New York City is known for its extensive collection of art museums ranging from the Metropolitan Museum of Art which is usually the most renowned to others such as the the Solomon R. Guggenheim or the Whitney Museum of American Art which are popular in their own rights. This abundance of art museums makes the city very attractive for foreign visitors. However, this abundance of choice can overwhelm even the most informed visitors who have a finite amount of time to explore what the city has to offer. Although all of the above mentioned museums have great collections of their own, the often unheralded Frick Collections might trump them all in terms of exceptional works which include some of the world's most celebrated Western artists, such as Goya, Manet, Monet, Rembrandt, and Renoir.

The Columbus Museum of Art is a place rich in local history. A place where items of historical and artistic value are stored for safekeeping and allow access for public viewing. The museum has several locally named galleries. It also has a cute children’s area, complete with artwork from little local artists from several schools in the area. The children’s area has several pieces of art that children may touch, like Chicken George. I remember touching that chicken when I would visit as a child. The area also has a mini art studio to cater to the little creative minds that pass through.
Many might have been working on Good Friday, but many others were enjoying The Frist Museum of Visual Arts. A museum visitor visited this exhibit on April 14, 2017 early in the morning. The time that was spent at the art museum was approximately two hours and a half. The first impression that one received was that this place was a place of peace and also a place to expand the viewer’s imagination to understand what artists were expressing to the viewers. I have decided to give the Art Gallery in the F building a chance. The title of the artwork is called, Still Table, by Julie Lemon. This is a very interesting gallery. Also, I thought it was very mysterious and unusual. Every image had a story behind it. They were all colorful and were made of different shapes and materials. Obviously, the artist had a vision of how her gallery was going to turn out. She wanted to spread her vision in more than one image and she succeeded. Some people were may be confused about her results, but others were very satisfied. When I look at her images, I see tables filled with colorful objects that are combined together to create a story of some sort. Although, the images had no visible
Carol Brown Goldberg is a 20th century artist. Her abstract piece on display at the Reading Public Museum entitled, Michael Welzenberg, Where Are You? creates a lustrous environment for inquisitive deliberation. The massive piece, done using acrylic on canvas and pulverized glass, was completed in 2007 and stands roughly seven feet by eight feet. Everything about the piece completely engulfs the viewer’s attention with its use of colorful design, size, and over all layout.
As we reach the museum, the exterior was very beautiful. The first things I saw were the bronze statues in the front. We took a couple of pictures in front of them and in front of the Norton Simon. The entrance where the glass doors had sat was very unique and elegant. The glass walls that the glass doors were attached to, added to the elegance and beauty. When I had first walked in, I was very shy, timid, and unwilling to go on, this was due to the more mature audience that I had seen when I had first entered the museum. I was still unsure on how to act in a museum, being this my first time, so I was very calm, cool and reserved, but as time went on I saw college students my age probably doing the same thing I was doing. So I then I felt more at ease. Plus my girlfriend was with me so I was not alone.
I like that the museum is located in Battery Park and it’s very convenient to get to and from the outside the architectural structure of the building is amazing. Inside the building itself is also a piece of artwork. The ceiling design is a beautiful; it almost looks like a church with many painting of ships and European explorers. There’s also a huge circle area in the middle of the museum
The Museum Of Modern Art “MOMA” was firmly established on 53rd street in 1939 in Midtown Manhattan New York, after a decade of moving due to its growth in modern art pieces. Originally Patrons Miss Lillie P. Bliss, Mrs. Cornelius J. Sullivan, and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller Jr. wanted to establish a program dedicated to modern art in the late 1920s. A. Conger Goodyear, Paul Sachs, Frank Crowninshield and Josephine Boardman Crane, whom later became trustees, created the Museum Of Modern Art in 1929. It’s founding Director, Alfred H. Barr, Jr. wanted the MOMA to be "the greatest museum of modern art in the world." Its intent was to provide ordinary blue collar individuals with a better understanding and acknowledgment of art in its era.
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.
I enjoyed going to the Springville Museum of Art more than I thought I would. The only time I usually go to art museums is when I go out of the country and I’ve never been one to look at a painting for more than a few seconds. However, I thought the art museum had a friendly atmosphere and that the building itself was amazing both on the outside and inside. Also, if you choose to you can choose to do a guided tour but must schedule at least two weeks in advance.
For my Museum Visit Assignment, I chose a museum that I’ve longed to visit since the day I entered New York for the first time, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or simply known as “The Met”. From afar, I was able to identify the shape of the building as a late-European architecture. Lucky enough, when I asked one of the staff members at the museum about the architecture of the building, they said that one of the contributing architects was Richard Morris Hunt, who is known for the “Beaux-Arts” architecture around the New York and other states. Enchantingly enough, it’s really only the façade and the entrance that define Beaux-Art. As I journeyed through the different eras and cultures, the design seemed to change. From a European entrance to a brick wall, hosting the tales of the Egyptian art that was displayed, to the entrance of a Siheyuan architected room that made me feel like a trespasser, walking through someone’s house without an invitation. While walking through most of the stairways, I could tell that there was nothing special about them, even when entering the Modern and Contemporary Art section, I realized that like the other historical eras, the design of the room resembled the style of art, both being modern and contemporary.
‘Savage Beauty’ was an exhibition that pushed the boundaries of museology, in its artistic, social and critical undertakings. The questions brought to bear by the exhibition of contemporary art and culture in various situations is something I am interested in researching further with a degree in curating.
