It was first used as a name of an exhibition, Exposition des Impressionnistes. Then impressionniste was printed in the Charivari after the exhibition. Through both many influences of Eugene Boudin and the advancements of the Realists, Impressionism became, not only an art form, but a state of mind. Through Impressionism, artists could convey their personal visual reality with the use of color and light. Among the inspired were Monet, Manet, and Renoir, who later became artists of world famous Impressions.

Post Impressionism Essays 1. Post impressionism is a term that is used to describe a group of late-19th century and early-20th century artists whose work helped art transition into a new era. These artist defied the naturalism of the Impressionist to explore color, line, and form. This rebellion led to the development of Expressionism. Generally, the approaches were so varied that it is difficult just to focus on one artist and their technique.
Paul Cézanne’s Post-Impressionist artwork was so influential, it was able to give birth to the new artistic explorations such as cubism. During the Post-Impressionism movement, artworks were restored to resemble the arts after Impressionism. Impressionism is an art movement during the 19th century and originated from a group of French artist. Impressionism had a specific criteria in how artworks were made: relatively small, thin visible brush strokes, uncluttered structure, light in its changing qualities depending on time of day and place, and visual angles. Through the major development of technologies and social changes that have taken place in the 19th century, Modern art flourished during this period and caused a lot movements of modern art to form, some of these famous movement are cubism, abstract expressionism, pop art, and surreal art. Modern art also become man’s inspiration in life because these great art can express a unique feeling in which a person is attracted to that kind. This also means that a modern artist learns from himself and does not need any major training, a modern artist learns by himself through his experiences and imagination. Modern art runs a very important role in man’s life throughout history, because it that does not only give us inspiration but also the freedom to express ourselves through the use of different mediums. Works by the impressionist artists to be akin to a sketch or an unfinished piece of art and not suitable for exhibit. Their reaction to being excluded was to have their own exhibitions. The City of Paris became the principal location for impressionists as it had been renovated under Napoleon III between 1853 and 1870. “Its many facets and varied participants make the Impressionist movement difficult to define. Indeed, its life seems as fleeting as the light effects it sought to capture.” (Samu 2000) Impressionists used everyday scenes for their subjects in an attempt to capture reality.
Impressionism took the place of realism, and the ideas of individual perception took hold. Writers and artists started to contemplate what perception really was. The basic lines of realism in art dissolved, boundaries were crossed, and artists began to consider not only the idea of perception, but the experience of it as well. Walter Sickert is an example of an impressionist painter, who not only based many of his paintings on photographs, but manipulated light and colour to better represent the emotion of a scene, a stolen moment of the everyday lives the photograph depicted. His art was monumental in the modernist period, and like many other impressionist painters, he reshaped the idea of perception.
The lack of use in the outline and detail is a traditional impressionist technique. Modernism represents a new start amongst artist in wanting to create whatever they want. This being of a new era that changed tradition that include religious, political, and society that creates new ideas. This movement appeared in France during the late 19th century as a rebellion against realism. Artist embraced society with their new ideas of social life and art.
Melissa Ho, assistant curator at Hirshhorn Museum explains “...it seems almost natural that the way you think of works of art are expression of an individual view.” Modern art is unique to the artist because of the society’s new emphasis on being innovative.
