I have found this class to be very individual focused, which I like. It allows me to really focus on what I need to work on based on your critiques in our assignments such as our scene partner work and monologues. This class is definitely helping me see where my strengths are, and where I need improvement.
I’ve been struggling with some of the classes vocal warm-ups, because for me, I find them very uncomfortable, even though I do see the gain in doing them. I find the stretching and vocal warm-ups uncomfortable, because I’m used to warming up by myself and in my own secluded space. I realize that I shouldn’t be uncomfortable, but I just am not able to shake that feeling—which is something I really want to push for in the next semester. I

The masks and props we chose really allowed us to develop characters quickly and create a whole story based around them. I think it was the quick thinking that I liked about it and how quickly you had to become in tune with who you were trying to portray. Hiding behind a mask allows you to focus strictly on body language and gestures. Because you don’t have to worry about saying anything aloud, you direct all your attention to “talking” with your body language. I like the idea of directing your attention to one specific aspect of acting because then you are able to tie all of those things together in the …show more content…
My group struggled at first with combining all of our ideas into one solid piece that actually was good. When we practiced our myth in front of others, you could tell that no one really liked it and no one in my group was into what we were doing either. When we scrapped our idea, I think that’s when we actually listened to each other and were honest with what worked and what didn’t. My group was given the umbrellas to use and in our first idea, we weren’t utilizing them to their fullest potential, so rather than focusing on when to use them, we focused on how we could use them and jotted down ideas. From those ideas we were able to connect ideas and create a scene in which we all enjoyed doing. I enjoyed doing this because it was nice to hear other people’s opinions and ideas because quite often they are completely different from your own and creating a scene that incorporates all of those ideas is really great to
Graduation is not as glamorous as everyone thinks. Sitting in the bleachers for four hours in the scalding heat with your nicest clothes on is not fun (at least for me). I would’ve had no problem skipping my graduation, except for one part. There is one segment of graduation that makes the whole thing bearable, the speech. The graduation speech plays a pivotal role in making or breaking graduation ceremony. These speeches not only serve to inspire the public, but also shapes the values of the academic
My Graduation Ceremony Since more Chinese students tend to come to study aboard in America, the western mode of education is widely spread in China. The graduation ceremony is one of the most important elements of western education mode. For example, baccalaureate gown and the speech of headmaster are signals of western graduation ceremony. In china, Chinese students are hardly to have a formal graduation ceremony. Especially, in the high school and middle school, students don't have graduation ceremony
on your speech. Ever since I started school and especially high school, I was a straight A student. Doing all the hard work and not trying to cheat during tests, which gave me the chance to give a speech during the graduation ceremony. In my case, I have given many speeches since high school graduation and almost all of them went just fine; except of one that went really well, but there were some issues before I give it. My first speech, which was the one I had issues with, but changed my life in
commencement speech at Stanford University at the graduation ceremony. His speech focused on three main stories: the first was about connecting the dots, the second was about his was about love and loss, and his third was about death. Using examples from his own life, Jobs shared a speech that was appealing to the audience. The speech is effective and interesting because of his use of rhetoric, specifically, his use of ethos, pathos, and Kairos. The first statement he makes in his speech is
Rowling effectively conveyed her messages about imagination and failure by referencing her own experiences and using rhetorical devices to appeal to the graduates before the went on to real life. J.K. Rowling’s job as a commencement speaker was to give advice to the graduates that she had learned throughout her life (Fabry 1). To grab everyone's attention before she began her main points in her speech, she kept
everyone and a warm welcome to Owens Community College to celebrate today’s graduation ceremony. For myself, this is an extreme honor to be part of this celebration and the opportunity to stand in front of all you amazing people. This is something that I never dreamt of. To be honest, standing here is exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. This is my first graduation ceremony and I have never heard a commencement speech before. So now you know that I have no clue or an idea of where to begin or
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Graduation can be a special time for high school seniors. Students have a chance to celebrate with their friends, family and teachers about what they learned both in and outside of the classroom, as well as say goodbye to everyone one more time before going to college or starting new careers. Students at South Charleston High School will experience that bittersweet moment on May 20 when they walk across the stage at the Charleston Civic Center. The joy of the upcoming days getting close-up to a special event of her 8th graduation from Lafayette County Training School in Stamps, Arkansas was the main focus of Maya Angelou’s “Graduation.” A young African American flourishing scholar waiting with excitement and hope for her graduation moment, and to began a new journey in the real world. Angelou implies her overall excitement into the conflicts of issues that shows a reflection of societal problems that still occur in today’s society. It emphasizes
people suffering infectious diseases. I have been greatly influenced by his commencement speech as he graduated with an honorary doctorate at Harvard University in 2007. In his speech, Dr. Gates not only was to commence on the graduates, but also to bring awareness to the audience of the World’s existing problems. He appropriately brought up the issue of inequities during the commencement because as the speech was for the graduates, Mr. Gates believed these people are more capable of making the changes
The late co-founder of Apple Inc and Pixar Animation Studios Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford University’s 2005 graduation is perhaps one of the most motivational presentations ever delivered to young people. In fact, it has the ability to motivate anyone with aspirations. In his message before the graduates enter into a new world, Jobs used personal setbacks in his life and how he ascended from them in an effort to encourage them to pursue their dreams. In the initial stage of the presentation
In “Graduation,” Maya Angelou tells the story of life in 1940s Stampa, Arkansas. She focused on the partial treatment of African -American- during that time because they were not considered by their educated intelligence like white people. She elucidates on how it feels to be discriminated and considered as less than equal. Angelou labels her anger from the racism and pride of graduation day at her segregated school. Similarly, to this podcast, “The Problem We All Live With,” tells the life experiences
Graduation Maya Angelou’s autobiographical essay “Graduation” was more than graduation. Upon reading the story I realized that Maya highlights that the African-American families at the time regarded the eighth grade graduation to be a big event. Initially Maya was excited and hopeful about the event, yet when she took her seat in the auditorium, she felt anxious. Mr. Edward Donleavy, a white speaker delivered the commencement speech in which made Maya upset because told them that black people only
I consider Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005 to be one of the most effective speeches. He uses mechanics of speech to craft a well-rounded speech that is crowned by his use of rhetorical devices. Jobs gives relevant and fundamental knowledge of his life and experiences with his rhetorical approach. In his speech to the Stanford’s graduation class, he tells different stories of love, loss, discovery and difficulty he faced in his life to encourage new graduates as they
and read those commencement speech, I have been thinking about my future how is going to be, and it was like start a new chapter of life in a clean page. The commencement speech gives a lot of advice of how future is going to happen and how hard life I have to go through. During the commencement speech class of 2014, the principal got me thinking about my future, and it was like there is either emotion of sadness nor happiness. The sadness things are I’m going to miss my high school, friends and teachers
