One of the biggest problems facing the world today is global warming. Global warming has an adverse effect on biodiversity and climatic conditions on earth. Numerous current developments clearly demonstrate that global warming has a direct impact on warming of land, rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and other major climate changes all over the word. Man-made carbon dioxide (CO2) released in the atmosphere is one of the major factors leading to global warming disaster.

But where is so much of CO2 coming from? Fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas are being burned to provide energy. Ken Caldeira (2012) in his article “The Great Climate Experiment” talks about how Co2 is being released in the atmosphere (p. 80). According to him, because of industrial civilization fossil fuels are being burned at an increasing rate. There has been tremendous increase in the temperature due to atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations produced by human activity. As a result of this, the world is becoming warmer, consequences of which have been felt all over the globe. With the rising temperatures the stretch of the deserts would increase. Carbon dioxide increases the evaporation of water into the atmosphere. Since water vapour itself is a greenhouse gas, this causes still more warming. The warming causes more water vapour to be evaporated. The C02 level is expected to rise in future due to ongoing burning of fossil fuels and land use change.
