Whether it’s George Lucas’s classic space opera “Star Wars” or Quentin Tarintino’s gory action films, everyone loves movies. From action to satire there is a movie for everyone, but the medium in which we view these movie are always changing. The cinema has held its title as the go-to for watching the latest flicks, but with the exponential strides, we have made in entertainment technology it seems as if this era is coming to an end. From laptops to tablets you can view a new movie with the push of a button while in the comfort of your own home. It seems that ticket prices at the cinema are always going up because the supply outweighs the demand, as a result admission fees cost twice as much as they did before. Not to mention the outrageous prices that they charge for refreshments and popcorn, its seems as if the cinema approaches its consumers with a mafia-like mindset intending to drain them of every single penny before they even sit down to enjoy the movie. Although, if you chose to view a movie at home, you probably wouldn’t spend a dime because entry is free, and you have your own food and refreshments. Unfortunately, incidents like the mass shooting of unarmed citizens in Aurora, Colorado which took place in a movie theater during a midnight screening of the film “The Dark Knight Rises” still occurs in our society. Most movie theaters barley have any security measures and some don’t even have security guards. Once in a theater you are in a dark room surrounded by over two hundred people each with an ulterior motive, this type of atmosphere is a breeding ground for paranoia and doubt not to mention you probably will be to distracted worrying about your own safety than watching the movie. There is also the risk of a fire and even a small one is enough to send people into a frenzy which could lead to getting trampled on by a human stampede like in the case of Iroquois movie theater fire in 1903. When viewing a movie home you are surrounded in a familiar environment, as well as varying measures of security such as burglar proofing and silence alarms. Some home owners even own guns as added measure of security, with all these things in place you are guaranteed to be able to concentrate on watching your movie in tranquility. Although, you are also susceptible to things which you cannot control no doubt the chances increase by a margin when leaving
