Gender roles is defined by Wikipedia by “a set of societal norms dictating the types of behaviors which are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable for people based on their actual or perceived sex or sexuality.” (“Wikipedia Gender Roles”). In other words, gender roles tell every individual how to be themselves, which is completely wrong. Eckert and McConnell-Ginet make great points and provide substantial studies to follow their claim on the expectations we have for men and women and how they affect us everyday growing up and into adulthood. I think we can solve the issue of molding into gender roles assigned to us by allowing people to choose freely based upon what makes them happy, not because of what acceptable. If we did this the world would be more accepting and less judgemental allowing the transgender community to feel safe and accepted and allow men to show feelings rather than hide them with anger(this is for you jenna lol).
