Freud Freud focused on psychoanalytic standpoint where individuals’ problems were development of experiences early in life (Santrock, 2012). He was convinced that children experience of pleasure and sexual impulses shifts from mouth, anus, and to the genitals. In his perspective, if the need for pleasure at any of the following stages is either undergratified or overgratified then that individual may become fixated at that stage of development. The stages include oral stage (birth to 1.5 years), anal stage (1.5 to 3 years), phallic stage (3 to 6 years), latency stage (6 years to puberty), and genital stage (puberty onward).

Young children can be affected by many social, environmental, and economic factors. Because children are easily exposed, many things can easily impact them. Research indicates that the first three years are critical thus; early child development needs should be a top priority for the well being of the child (2012). A learning environment is crucial that stimulates and aids in the child’s skill development. Research has also shown that children’s environmental experiences influence their language skills (Harris, Golinkoff, & Hirshpasek, 2011). In addition, the family’s socioeconomic status and parental communication is also linked towards the child’s development (Hart & Risley, 1995). Goldfeld, Woolcock, Kats, Tanton, Brinkman, O’Conner, Mathews, & Giles-Corti investigated the impact that socio-environmental factors role in the of children’s developmental outcomes (2015).
