How have you ever wondered what it 's like to be in the foster Care System? There are so many scary stories that people throw out there and yes, some may be true but there 's not always the case. There are homes where the parents and the rest of the family is very kind hearted and beautiful. I mean I can 't say I 've been in the foster care system where the house parents are so terrible. I had experiences at bad homes before, but never in a crazy way. I know it is hard to have other people you don 't know try to be in charge of you. I was picked up by the kids and sometimes even got hit by them. The Parent always seems to believe whatever her child tells her like other people don 't matter. I hated living in there because I felt like everyone They are always there when I need them and I love that. My family is the center of my life. I never forget how they are there even through the good and bad times. I know my family loves me. I felt the same love of my second foster parents. They were just kind towards me without even knowing me. It 's amazing how much love some people can have in their hearts for a complete stranger. As you can see there are lots of goods when it comes to foster homes. What we need to hear about is the good things that happen in foster care. There are a lot of kids who love where they are living and would not want to change places. Not all kids are bad or improper when it comes to behaving nicely. Yes, there are kids who are good and not bad at all in their foster homes. There are lots of good and a lot of bad when it comes to the foster parents themselves and the homes you are placed in. I know there are homes where the kids are abused by the parents and sometimes with the kids as well. It 's not the fact that the kid or kids are behaving badly at all. The family just doesn 't much care about the kid or kids just only the money they get monthly. I don 't even blame the parents sometimes just the government. When Cris Bean was writing the book, he mentioned a couple of times the fact of how traumatizing it can be for kids who end up in foster care. When a kid is placed into the foster care system, it can be very stressful and disorientating the first few days. Probably the hardest part is wrapping your head around the fact that now a child is in the foster care system and why are they there. Many kids that are older probably did not have to follow many rules since the biological parents where perhaps on drugs, alcohol, or not even being there at all. So, living in a new house with rules can be a very difficult thing to follow, or even if the child has reasoning for right and wrong.

Even though my focus is to help the child and think about their best interest, this paper showed me that the parents, both biological and foster, are another important factor that helps the children. Most people want the best for children in foster care and decide to take care of them until their parents can possibly recover. The foster care system can have both a negative or positive effect on children, foster parents, and biological parents because of the gaps in the system. Foster cannot not be avoided but the some aspects of the foster care system can be avoided if the missing gaps were filled.
The foster care workers should investigate foster parents more thoroughly than they have before. These parents that just get handed kids and get given rules does not mean that every foster parents follow them. They can prevent giving children to the wrong people by doing more thorough background checks. In 2001, approximately 300,000 children entered the foster care system, with the average time spent in placement equaling 33 months (Bass Shields, & Behrman, n.d.). Statistically, the longer a child is in the foster care system, the greater number of placements they will have, and instability increases each year (Bass Shields, & Behrman, n.d). Many children are going to the foster care because of many tragedies they already had before they even understand what is life all about. Fortunately, for them, there are some people who try to help them out and give them a second shot at life. In todays’ society many Americans never think about our foster care system. Foster care is when a child is temporarily placed with another family. This child may have been abused, neglected, or may be a child who is dependent and can survive on their own but needs a place to stay. Normally the child parents are sick, alcohol or drug abusers, or may even be homeless themselves. We have forgotten about the thousands of children who are without families and living in foster homes. Many do not even know how foster care came about. A few of the earliest documentation of foster care can be found in the Old Testament. The Christian church put children into homes with widowers and then paid them using collection from the church congregation. The system that the church had in place was actually successful, and was continued to be used until English Poor Law eventually regulated family foster care in the U.S.

Children are the most valuable resource for the future of America. This proves the importance for everyone to pitch in and raise these very fragile children to the best of their abilities, so they can grow up to be striving, happy, healthy adults. This is why it is imperative for mandatory reporting, stiffer penalties, and programs to help recognize and prevent child abuse. After all it does take a village to raise a child. Communities uniting as one will build trust amongst themselves, and a stronger and more secure foundation for their children. My family is a love I have. My immediate family consists of six people: my dad, mom, and three sisters and me. However, I love these people on a different scale than I love books. Whether it is a hand to guide, a tissue to wipe away tears, or simply a smile to make my day better I can count on people to love me and so, henceforth, I love them in return. I love my parents for many reasons. They are always there for me when I need help or am need of anything.
