Research Review

The first study, explored how Emergency Primary Health Care (EPC) personnel have

dealt with threats and violence from visitors or patients, focusing on how organizational factors

affected the incidents. According to study of Morken, T., Johansen, I.H., Alsaker, K., (2015, p.

1), “themes emerged for anticipating or dealing with incidents of threats or violence within the

system are minimizing the risk of working alone, being prepared, resolving the mismatch

between patient expectations and the service offered, and supportive manager response.” The

study shows a possible for development of better organizational strategies for protecting EPC

personnel who are at risk from workplace violence.

effectiveness of aggression management training program. That aggression management training

may be an effective instrument in the fight against workplace violence.

The third study focuses on the experience of healthcare staff with regard to patient and

visitor violence in a general hospital. According to a study of Hahn, S., Hantikainen, V.,

Needham, I., Kok, G., Dassen, T., & Halfens, R.J., 2012, p. 2685), “to prevent patient and visitor

violence and improve management strategies, training which focuses on communication skills,

which is specific to the professional context and which emphasizes patient centeredness need to?

be designed and implemented, and also a strong organizational commitment is imperative to

reduce violence.”

The fourth study is to report the development and psychometric testing of the Hospital Aggressive Behavior Scale – Users. The results indicate that, in nursing personnel, higher

exposure to user violence leads to lower job satisfaction, more emotional exhaustion and
