School hours should be shortened. Without a high school diploma, you cant even work as a garbage man in New york nor can you join the army. A average student in the us spends about 14,256 hours in school to get there high school diploma. That adds up to 594 full days worth of school just to get your diploma. The average school day in the U.S. is 6.5 hours. If we shortin the day just 30 minutes a day it will decrease the hours we are in school by 648 hours, that adds up to 27 full days worth of school. That isn't much of a difference but it can help. Longer school days would leave students with not wanting to do anything that involves school. Students will start to slack off and their grades will suffer and they lose interest in school. Rachel Brooklyn a writer for Huffington Post says “By shortening the school days, students wouldn’t be as distressed about going to school and their grades would be higher. Fewer school hours per day would permit students to have enough time to study, complete school assignments, participate in after-school activities and be able to get to bed by a decent hour”.this is saying that students are stressed, and that after school with more students needing jobs to save up for collinge and after school sports that it becomes really stressful to go to
Do you think that students should have longer lunch and recess time? I think that kids need free time to talk to their friends and socialize. Kids also need enough time to exercise everyday to keep them focused and their energy level low. Another reason they need to have a longer lunch/recess is because kids need time to eat and shouldn’t be rushed at lunch.
School days should be shorter fro students because they do not get enough sleep, have to much homework, and have barley have time to participate in extra curricular activities. A majority of students have sleep depravation due to school. If school would either start or end late students will have a greater opportunity to get more sleep. Teachers expect students to pay attention for 90 minutes while the night before they were up late finishing their homework for there classes. Some teachers do not realize that students have a life and work or have other obligations that take up a major portion of the students.
Schools should not start later because that would cause a lot of problems. Schools should stay how they are because it will make kids stop being on there phones at night so much, it won’t make school end later (and make kids walk home in the dark), and it interfere with sports or jobs.
Are you tired of waking up so early in the morning? Daryn doesn't get tired until 11:00. He then has basketball practice at 6:15. That means he only gets about 6 hours of sleep because he has to wake up at 5:30. After basketball he's tired, then he has to go to school and most likely falls asleep in school because he's so weary from such a busy, miniscule morning. Schools should start later in the morning because it gives the child more sleep so they won't be tired, gives them a more productive morning and benefits their education.
Should school start later? How would you feel waking up when it is still dark outside? Wouldn't you want to get the recommended hours of sleep to feel well rested, more focused and to be more healthy. In doing this you can show your best abilities at school.
Why School Should Have a Later Start Time Most students, if asked, would say they wished school started later for many reasons. School is a fundamental institution for educating children and learning needs to happen when the child has had a good night’s rest with the right amount of recommended sleeping hours. Teenagers tend to fall asleep later and have the need to sleep in. School should have a later start time because the adolescents would be cutting out quite a bit of risk factors, adolescents will feel healthier with extra sleep time, and there would be less risks of teenagers falling asleep in class.
Imagine waking up and looking in the mirror with bags under your eyes; you look like you have lived a long ninety years, but in reality you have been deprived of sleep from a tiring week of work. If this sounds depressing to you, how can you ignore the feeling of all the teenagers who are forced to mentally function before their biological clocks are even put in gear? School should have a later starting time for the sake of students paying more attention, schools acquiring improved attendance, and parents being less worryful about their kids.
In a recent survey over 70% of students want school to start at 9:00am or later, helping students by miles. Students who stay up past 1am on average every night start developing psychological and mental health problems. Other students come to school sleep deprived and do poorly on there work. Leading students to substance abuse or higher obesity due to stress. Furthermore students who go to school at a later time never develop psychological and mental health problems unlike students who go to school at early start times.
Waking up early is the daily routine for most students. Recently, however, school schedules have sparked a debate. Some people believe that school should start later due to health reasons. On the other hand, there are many who think school should start early.
Teenagers need around 10 hours of sleep, but most teens get around 7 hours of sleep. Some people say it is because of school start time, but other people say it’s the kids’ fault for going to bed so late. The people that say it’s the kids’ fault are usually people who work for the school district. Some people say that it’s the teens’ fault, but the AASM says that it is natural for teens to go to sleep late and then sleep in a lot. School start times should be pushed back so that teens can get enough sleep.
Amelia pounds on the alarm clock at dawn in exhaustion. She falls right back asleep since she has hit the SNOOZE button yet again. She then hears the footsteps of her parents walking the hallway that leads to her room. Suddenly a loud scream ringing in her ears signaling for her to wake up once again. She knows that the bus will be here soon to pick her up for school. So, she drags her half-awake body out from underneath her sheets, staggers toward the bathroom, and hits the wall both literally and figuratively. This is a typical morning for not only Amelia but most adolescents as they battle the early morning start times of schools. Therefore, teenagers need school to start at a later time. Schools must start later for teenagers because of health issues, educational reasons, and increase injuries/ deaths.
When your alarm clock rings, or your parents yell at you in the morning, do you feel like
Schools starting Earlier in the day make it easier for students to get to school and be able to do after school activities and their coaches not worrying that they aren’t going to beat the sun for daylight. People say that if school started later that students wouldn’t be tired at school that is false because since students would have to wake up later they would go to sleep later at night making them tired in the morning
I strongly believe kids should start school later than 8:00 so that they can get better grades and have more focus. If kids start school early their grades can go down and they can lose focus. Sometimes I get to school and I am tired. My school starts at 8:30 so it starts later than usual schools though, so that means schools should definitely start after 8:00. Schools that start early should definitely think about a later start time.
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days.
