Snitches generally target items that are inexpensive or smaller items mainly for personal use. In addition, they are more at risk of committing other related crimes correlated to the theft because of their inexperience and impulsivity. I’ve always questioned as to why people steal. According to Sarah (2013), their 5 reasons why people decide to shoplift which are depression, addiction (emotional highs), peer pressure & financial instability. There are people out there that choose to steal even though they have the money to afford it; they steal these items even though they have no value to them, as sometimes they discard it afterwards. A good example is Cyber Crimes, specifically identity theft. Today, most Americans don’t use physical cash, but rely on credit/debit cards, electronically held at your choice of bank. Hackers steal hundreds, thousands, millions, billions of dollars on the Internet. These types of thieves are the worst ones of all because they are manipulative, intelligent and show no remorse mainly because they don’t see the victim’s reaction. Most importantly, hackers are capable of stealing large amounts of money, much more beneficial than a common thief at a retail store. In fact, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (2015), around 17.6 million Americans have gotten their identities stolen in the year 2014. People can avoid robberies such as building fences, adding security guards/security cameras/alarms, or even dogs can scare aware criminals. There are certainly ways to protect yourself from such robberies, but very little protection when it comes to your computer; even virus protections are not enough to stop an expert hacker.
