Magic. I’m five years old again, waking up to Florida air that is unique from the rest of the world. My parents clothe my toddler brothers with their hats and sunscreen and then help me put on my beloved Minnie shirt and Mickey ears. I bounce throughout the room, waiting to sprint downstairs and meet Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. Skipping, I look out the balcony of our hotel room in Orlando. My face beams like a glowstick. Cinderella’s Castle. Flash-forward nine years, and the same bright eyes stare at Cinderella’s Castle in Disney World. Now I’m fourteen and those around me don’t believe in Santa, the Tooth fairy, or magic in any sense. But I never lost that belief. I still watched Disney movies and listened to the music nonstop. Disney was still my world. I believe Disney is for all ages because it reveals the magic of joy in everyday life. Disney is still enchanting, albeit in a different way than in childhood. Back then Disney brought me Princesses and Fairies, but now Disney brings me little joys and life lessons that help keep me from going crazy in a busy life. Some of these stories have taught me things I use daily. Pocahontas taught me to follow my heart and my head, even when it may not be the way that I’m expected to go. As an indecisive person, this has been a hard lesson to learn. Princess and the Frog taught me to work hard to reach my goals and Beauty and the Beast told me that “beauty lies within”. Additionally, one that has hit hard throughout the entirety of my life is The Lion King. This movie, the music, animations, and story, has been one of the most influential stories in my entire life.
