As I entered home, the smell of paint and varnish mixed with coffee encompassed the air. Grandpa sat there with a mug of coffee in one hand and an orange-tinted brush in the other. He weaved magic with every dexterous stroke of his brush. As part of our daily ritual, I started to draw vague images as grandpa happily shared his paints and accessories and carefully monitored and corrected my hand movements. I believe this everyday ritual with him instilled the love of arts in me and as everyone else says perhaps it is also a genetic gift from him to me. Hours of daily banter on this topic and his guidance only helped me get better at my art. While in Middle School, as the Art Mentor, I put my skills to use by adorning school display and theme boards. With time, my artistic abilities earned me a place in the School Core Art group. During my internship with an NGO, I was entrusted with data gathering for the disease Retinoblastoma - an eye cancer in children. This inquisitive trait of mine helped me strike an easy conversion with the doctors and volunteers. The sincerity with which I showed interest in what they had to tell helped build a natural camaraderie. I could quickly gain on-field experience and effectively contribute towards building a professional website for the initiative 'Fight Retinoblastoma India'. It is the same inquisitive urge that gives me my creative streak to experiment with art and give shape to some of my imaginations. As a curious explorer, I am not afraid to embrace uncertainty rather I like to see my life as an enjoyable quest to discover, learn and grow.
