Is a “pile” of homework enough for kids? Kids like me have no time for homework and every single day kids get a “pile” of homework to do after school. I’m not saying that kids should have no homework at all but less homework will do. On a regular weekday, students like me go to school for 6 hours and are given a 2 hour homework which is the total of 8 hours a day. Children everyday are using half of their day on school related stuff, but no matter what you do, teachers just keep stacking homework everyday. Is homework even useful? Students should have less homework because they will be less stressed, have more time for other activities, and homework is not an effective way for us to learn. 6-7 hours is enough for kids, but is 2 hour of homework really necessary? Is homework even helping us learn? The homework, teachers give us everyday is not changing anything about what we are learning. For instance, if teachers gave no homework or less homework, students will still be learning at school. So homework is basically not helping us learn anything new but just learn the same thing, so what is the point of homework. There are many beneficial sides to homework, if given the right amount. First of many, students need the practice for new material and in order for them to comprehend or learn it, they must practice it. They must take the time to actually sit down and focus on their work, and understand the work and lesson they are given. Second of all, homework helps the teacher know what their students understand, in order to go over the lesson in class and make sure the children can comprehend it. The teacher can then continue with what they are learning and not have to worry with a few children not having any clue of what is going on in class. This also makes it quicker for the teacher to actually go over the lesson, rather than go back and help the student that did not understand, due to lack of doing their homework. There have been so many studies recently that talk about how homework has started to become more burdensome for more students. The United States has gone from teaching to shoving homework in kids’ faces to keep them on the idea that school is always there. Classes have been extended from 45 minutes each day to an hour and a half. This was supposed to allow students work time at the end of classes and get help when needed. When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
A problem with elementary students having homework is that their parents end up doing it just to get it over with. According to today.com there was a rule established by the National Education Association that limits the amount of homework any age kid, especially elementary should have to do. This is called “the 10 minute rule.” Kindergarten students should not get homework but first graders gets 10 minutes, second graders gets 20 and so on. This rule has been broken by teachers giving kindergarten students almost as much homework as a third grader should have. Because this rule is so often broken, parents are forced to step in and help their kids so they don’t look back on their life as all I did was homework.
Ever since you were a little kid in school you’ve always had homework whether it be drawing or writing a five paragraph essay. There have always been contriverces about whether homework is really necessary for students. A poll was conducted earlier this year showed that 58% of parents thought that their child got just the right amount of homework , 19% felt there was too much and 23% thought there was too little. Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. Kids everywhere around the world have homework. Homework is part of a child’s school life, it is normal for them. What is bad is that hours and hours of homework per night is casual for a student. Over the years homework has grown to be a tremendous expectation for any student across the world. A past experience of mine is that every night I have at least an hour or 2 of homework.
Although some people are against homework, I believe that homework is a valuable tool for education because it helps students take initiative, helps students grasp concepts, and helps them build on their own interest. There is a war going on that many people do not know about. The homework supporters and the homework abolishers have been battling in the school system for many years. The focus of this battle is whether or not homework is needed. Although many feel that homework takes up too much time, research proves that homework improves life skills and increases learning outside of the classroom.

In conclusion, homework is a waste of time. Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework.
