Why do you want to become a Resident Assistant (RA)? It’s difficult to pinpoint one reason I would love to be a Resident Assistant.I have been interested in the position since I became close with my floor’s RA during my first semester at Moore, and my time as a SADI RA only cemented that interest in me. Another key factor is the opportunity that my current position in the school has given me. I currently work in the admissions office as a Student Ambassador, and I’ve gotten to see aspects of Moore that I didn’t have the chance be a part of before starting my job. One of my favorite parts has been being able to be part of student’s “Moore Experience” Being able to engage with potential students through Admissions events and On-campus visits, …show more content…

I believe that my time as a SADI RA and as a Student Ambassador have helped prepare me for this role. Through working the SADI program I have had the chance to familiarize myself with how rounds are executed and reported, as well as how to host programs for residents. The community at Moore, to me in specifically, means everyone wants to see each other succeed. I have been consistently stunned by the ability of my peers while attending classes and getting to see their work. And obviously everyone roots for their friends to do well and will boost their confidence, but while attending Moore I’ve had students I’d never interacted with give me criticism on my work without so much as knowing my name, just because we were sharing a studio and needed a second eye. Following my peers on social media I can see plenty of examples of this, even just as simple as somebody taking a picture of a drawing on the expressions board giving a compliment to the stranger that drew it just in case they see it. I’d love to be able to bring that sense of community to my floor through floor specific events, like an ice breaker at the beginning of the year, or each semester if there was a influx of students in the spring semester, floor trivia to encourage mingling and getting to know the floormates, or using one of the boards for resident interaction, as well as encouraging students to post work they’re proud of and leaving post
