What do Honor, Commitment, and Initiative mean to me? We look up to the rich and the successful people and think that they are smart and everything and want to be like them, but in reality, they’re just like us, humans. They have struggled through many challenges until they reached the position that they are in today and they built these three character traits so they can fight for what they want. To be successful in life, you have to show these three character traits every day in your life in order to achieve your goals. These characteristics define who we are as a person. To have initiative, it means the personal quality that shows the willingness to take responsibility. Do it yourself. For example, if you don’t understand the teacher,
Examples of this are people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, who were the perfect age during the computer revolution in 1975, when the personal computer was invented and made widely available. However, not every person born in the same year as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates became a multimillionaire. Why? The ones who became successful were those who took a risk, and were willing to work hard to make something out of the computer revolution. When looking at people who gained their success from the invention of personal computers, Gladwell points out that “These are stories… about people who were given a special opportunity to work really hard and seized it” (67). One of Bill Gates’ advantages was that he went to Lakeside High School, which had a computer lab in a time when most schools did not. Everyone at Lakeside had access to that computer lab, but only a few students grew up to be the creators of the world’s best computer companies. Those who became successful were the students like Bill Gates, who worked hard in that computer lab and grew up to be world-class programmers. If someone is given unique opportunities but is not willing to seize them, they will not gain any success from those opportunities. Success is self made because in order to be successful, one must take advantage of the unique chances they are
A Few Keys to All Success by Jim Muncy, published in 2002 explains that there are 7 universal keys to success that we can relate to everyday life. Discernment, Optimism, Responsibility, Initiative, Perseverance, Purpose, Sacrifice. Each one represents how we grow and teaches us how to have a high quality of life. From reading this book I am confident because I know being normal means being average and what we do can change how we act significantly. Also we can’t let the world hold us back from greatness. There will be negativity, there will be those who lack enthusiasm but you can’t let them interfere in what you have in store. And these keys will help you get to that point in your life. Discernment; Judge the seed by the harvest. The first
The most effective leaders know better than to try to be someone they are not. They should always be searching for opportunities to reinvest in their strengths. Leaders need to stay true to who they are and make sure they have the right people around them. The book says those who surround themselves with similar personalities are at a disadvantage to those who are secure enough to be surrounded by people who strengths will compliment theirs.
Who we really are, what our real character is only truly elicited when we are challenged, as a proverb states, “In the darkest hour shines the brightest light.” Our true character shines through when we are pushed to our extremes and are placed in situations outside of the norm. Horace claims that when someone is faced with an adversity or a challenge, they are more likely to discover talents that they thought they never had. I agree with his claim that adversity breeds talents and strengthens our character, but still understand the importance of prosperity in developing talents.
People have different success stories that explain the ups and downs they have had to go through to achieve all they got. Most of the world’s admired men to day who have turned out to be the inspiration of most of the people that are excited and determined to succeed in life never started where they are. This essay brings to light various concepts based on the success story book by Malcolm Gladwell which if well applied, they will get any man successful. There is a common denominator in the successful and that is their way of thinking that places them in a unique categoryin life, they react and perceive situations differently even in the same circumstances.
Some people may be born into a family with wealth, and that is acceptable. Some people on the other hand, are not born into a family with wealth, and that is acceptable too. The work that families have done to get to the level they are in, are just a cushion. People should try to build their own reputation or success. Even if people work toward their goals of success, it could take years to reach, it isn’t something that happens over night usually. The way they act or present themselves in certain circumstances will determine if they succeed or fail. As much as people want to control every step toward that, there are things that are out of everyone's control. Every action they do, every decision they make, they can not control everything. There are certain things that can put a halt toward success, things many do not see coming till it happens. Oedipus had no idea that he was the one causing the sickness that was spreading through his kingdom. He was doing well as a king, but certain things can change that. His curse put on him when he was younger, was out of his control. The priest reminds Oedipus of his success depict the sickness surrounding them, “You saved us from Sphinx…”(40). Success may be the one thing you can control, but at the same time have no idea what could come
Moreover, this concept of free will and becoming financially self-reliant is still prevalent in modern society. The mid-twentieth (20th) to the early twenty-first (21st) century has become the age of entrepreneurship, where peoples from all nations no longer desire to work “for the man” but create their own legacy of prosperity. Likewise, it is a period in time that has redefined the way in which those from all walks of life can obtain success and wealth. Hence, the evolution of reality TV stars, YouTube sensations and rappers from being ordinary individuals to becoming fashion designers, actors and CEOs. However, our definition of success is not only defined by wealth it also includes having a life of meaning that is similar to that of Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. and Malcolm X. Certainly, I am speaking of a life that encompasses the ability to change our world for the better.
In this paragraph it talks about the strong businessman in the united states. In this detail it shows that people are very good. “ Many strong businesses show much profit due to people's need for success”. This shows the ability for people to care for others. Also it shows the ability for the compassion of other people. This next detail show the compassion and hard work of Bill Gates and how much he has succeeded in his life. “ Bill Gates is revered as one of the most iconic men of the 20th century due to his hard work and kind heart”. It takes a very caring man to donate so much money. But it takes someone special to donate millions. In this next detail it shows that business is high risk high reward. “ Many business struggle to make it to the top”. It takes guts to open a business. But it takes an intelligent being to make it big.
The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” As you watch mainstream media you notice that the rich and successful are always joyful and confident. This eludes you from the hard work it takes for someone to become successful. Main stream media has falsely popularized the true definition of being successful. Many people start to believe that you’re only successful if you own an enormous house with multiple rooms that you can sleep in a new room each night, or having luxurious cars, owning expensive items, traveling anywhere you want at any given time, but in fact the true meaning of success is far from that. In
Every person’s road to a success is different because every person has different personality, nature, ability, and sensibility. Therefore; although the law of success could be universalized, it is necessary to consider the law of success accordingly to different personality types. However, many authors of “how to succeed” books write about law of success basing only on their personality types.
Having admirable character, making conscientious decisions, and possessing positive determination are key ingredients for remarkable success.
The first characteristic, a positive attitude, is important because having the ability and enjoyment of working with other people in a team is a useful skill. A sincere liking and respect for other people is a wonderful asset. Being well liked will certainly help in working in teams or any other social situation. Humor and warmth are effective in order to be a good team member. A follower who focuses on positive thoughts by filtering out negative ones is on the trail of leadership. President Dwight D. Eisenhower often said, “No pessimist ever won a battle.” People who have a positive outlook on both life and specific situations tend to achieve their goals more often. The choice and determination to maintain an event-tempered disposition come what may; hence the ability to smile in the face of adversity and make things a little brighter for everyone.
The complexity of the term success in unbounded, with little to no restraints on how the term can be construed to the liking of the one doing the defining, however, true success will always be classified by the basic principles of morality, happiness and altruism. Unfortunately, many people aspiring to success in modern society are driven by the most luxurious objects that are present in society, but these are unfulfilling and short-lived. To be truly successful, one must not only benefit themselves in the present, but benefit the entirety of the human race for generations to proceed.
We always admire people who rise from nothing. We want to be just like them and start from the beginning. What we don’t know is that no body starts from the bottom and ends up being the most successful person in the world. What appears to us might not be what they went through. Being successful needs a preparation from the beginning. A person should be raised in an environment that allows him to be successful. He should also has a growing mindset that allows him to adapt to the changes through different periods of times, and learn as much as he can throughout his life. Another important factor in becoming is education. If you were not well educated, you would not be successful. In outliers, Malcolm Gladwell stated, “The people stand before kings may look like they did it all by themselves. But in fact they are invariably beneficiaries of hidden advantages and extra-ordinary opportunities and cultural legacies that allow them to learn and work hard and make sense of the world in ways others cannot.” (19). This supports the claim that people’s succe...
Nowadays, not only the competence, intelligence, and intention that can lead people to success, but also the behavior which is one of the factors. Most people may think that the goal of success is money; however, it is the achievement in the short-term, not the long-term. According to Christensen (2010), he has developed and presented several dimensions to students how to measure their lives and one of those ways is the humility. The three reasons why people should be modest are the limitless knowledge, more friends, and self-improvement.
