What Christians Believe about the Sanctity of Human Life AO1: Explain what Christians believe about the ‘sanctity of human life’ and especially their responsibility for those at the beginning and those at the end of life. Use bible passages and Christian church teaching to support your answer. Christians believe God created everything, as God created life it is therefore sacred. God has created us all in his own image, Genesis 1:26-27 ‘so god created man in his own image’. Killing anyone is directly hurting God, as we are part of him. Life is a gift from God and should not be just thrown away but preserved and cared for. The beginning of life has been valued highly since Jesus’ time, it is said in Lk 12:4-7 ‘the very hair on your head are numbered’ which shows that God cares for us all greatly and that life is not just a physical body, God is in us. In Psalms 139:13-16 ‘you knit me together in my womb’ shows that God has mapped out our lives, we have a purpose even if you are disabled or handicapped in any way. The baby (‘you’) has realised that God created him or her, the baby can think for it’s self and can make it’s own choices even at such a young age. Jeremiah 1:5 ‘before I formed you in the womb I know you’ suggests that God has planned out our lives before conception, destroy this baby through abortion is directly going against God’s plan for our lives. There is not as many teaching’s about the end of life from Jesus but the apostle Paul says ‘do you know that your body is a temple’ which implies that God is present in all of us and should not be chucked out with age or illness though euthanasia. Jesus healed all people not just the young, he knew that everyone is equal no matter there illness or age. For example he cured lepers, which was incurable, the people at the time thought they where sinners destine to die.

For instance, throughout life one is taught that being there for the other or a friend is something that is out of love and is the significance of friendship. Everyone should be friends with the poor, get to know them, and lend a helping hand.

Christian Believe About the Sanctity of Human Life Christians believe that God has given them the gift of life so therefore no one but God has the authority to end life or prevent new life. Exodus 20:13, “you shall not murder”, is an important biblical passage to the ‘sanctity of human life.’ It tells Christians initially that euthanasia, abortion and capital punishment are wrong although it is more complicated than that. Abortion is not mentioned in the Bible but the passage above does convey that it is wrong and you are sinning.

We learn that a child is not “born” but created. Every embryo is created and conditioned to the government’s image and likeness, living the life the government wants them to live. “All conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapable social destiny.” (P.16 Brave New World).
The theological virtues are explicitly given to us by God to prepare us for eternity and live in divine love. Even the human virtues, which are concerned about natural objects and increased by human practice, can be done for the love of God. These virtues helps us exercise mercy and patience with others. They allow us to do some natural good, love one another, and with God’s grace, can lead us to knowing Him and loving others with a supernatural love that hopes to be with them in eternal life. Thus, the teachings of these virtues, along with eternal life, help us exercise human practices for the love of God and make us good as humans, which can in turn strengthen the community and friendships around
To John Van Sloten, nothing is off limits to God’s redeeming power. That is, nothing in this world is void of God’s presence. God did not simply create the world, take a step back, and allow humans to fend for themselves. Instead, God is actively involved in every aspect of his creation. It is important to note that we humans have perverted creation and have altered the God-intended uses and purity of everything we touch. While our actions continue to taint and pollute God’s creation, God is still evident in everything. His truth glimmers through the waste we have created. Van Sloten argues that we should not avoid this waste but should, instead, seek God’s truth within the waste we have created.

Jesus Christ shows us that in order to live a good human life we must be intact with their humanity by helping others through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. As humans we should always be there for one another, instead of putting each other down. From feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and sheltering the homeless. To counseling the doubtful, forgiving offenses willingly and comforting the afflicted we are following the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. By helping through Jesus Christ we are helping others.
