Resource directed measure emphasize the protection of water resources such rivers, dams, estuaries, wetlands, groundwater etc. it sets the environmental flows and the exact goals of the environment for the quality of resources.
The resource directed measures have the objective of making sure that water resources are well protected in such a way that the ecosystem is protected as well and it functioning and making sure the desired state of health(integrity or condition) for those ecosystems depending on it both groundwater and aquatic. There are different practices which are undertaken in order to meet this objective such as the setting of the ecological reserve.
There National Water act No.36 of 1998 recognises the allowance of distribution of an ecological reserve and for a reserve for basic human needs. Water resources should first be categorized according to a National Water Resource Classification System (NWRCS or Classification System), to determine the future level of protection and define specific objectives for the resource (Resource Quality Objectives), and this will be used to determine the …show more content…

Within these catchments, a system of Strategic Adaptive Management (SAM) should be proposed, in recognition of the fact that the methods for decision-making with regards to water resource allocation and management and the implications of these decisions, are still to be tested. Adaptive management also lends itself to development of creative strategies for achieving the national policy objectives. Within each catchment, the intention is for the CMA to be involved in the development of a catchment vision and the implementation of the measures described above, as well as the development of a Catchment Management Plan and issuing of licences for water
