To the Soviet Union, Hosenfeld was a villain and a liar, since he told them about the Jewish man he saved. It was this belief that led to Hosenfeld’s eventual demise . Immediately after the war, there were many varying opinions as to whether Hosenfeld was either to be honoured or punished for his actions in the war. In 1950, Hosenfeld had forwarded the names of the people he had saved to his wife by mail, asking her to contact them so that they may save him.
