Walter Elias Disney, known by many as “the man behind the mouse”, was one of the most known people of the 20th century. He was both the dreamer and the do-er who brought his imagination to life through his determination and hard work. Walt Disney became the next Leonardo DaVinci – a significant, genuine artist that impacted society at heart. Disney was full of creativity and lived to share it with the world through his works of art. Although he is not alive today, he continues to impact our lives through the memories he left behind.
Walter Elias Disney was born on the 5th of December, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised by his Father Elias Disney, who was from Irish and Canadian descent, and by his Mother Flora Call Disney, who was from German and American descent (biography.com). Walt Disney lived in a small farm in Missouri, USA along with his parents, three brothers and one sister. As a kid, Walt developed a unique interest in drawing and trains; It was probably were most of his inspiration was aspired from. He spent much of his childhood in Missouri where he was able to pursue his love for art in his own way. At the age of seven, he began selling small drawings and sketches to his neighbors, and instead of doing home work, he would begin doodling animals and nature over his work.
Walt’s peculiar interest for trains soon grew even more. He had a family member, Mike Martin, who was a train engineer and became the bridge for Walt by allowing him to work during summer by selling newspapers, popcorn, and sodas to the passengers (Walt Disney, Biography). His love for trains developed soon into miniature train sets on his backyard, and eventually one on his very own theme park.

There is no doubt that Walt Disney left the world a better place. After all of the significant achievements that he accomplished such as receiving more than 950 honors and citations from every nation in the world, including 48 Academy Awards and seven Emmys in his lifetime, there is not a person in the world that has not smiled due to Walt Disney’s impact on society. He did in fact become the legend; He became an example of the American Dream. Walt had reached the point where he didn’t work for money, only for what he loved the most – animation. He was perhaps the only man who was able to transform imagination into reality for the incentive of happiness in himself and others. Therefore, making Walter Elias Disney one of the most memorable and significant people of the 20th century.
