CONSERVATION TASK
Many animals are often endangered due to hunting, habitat loss or introduced predators to the area. Conservation programs are put in place to protect these animals from becoming extinct. These conservations programs create safe environments for living and breeding for the animals. Conservation isn’t just for animals, plants also. It is important to protect these animals and plants because it is unknown what could happen to the environment if they were to become extinct. Other animals may have a snowball affect; the species that became extinct could have been the primary source of food for another species and so on.

In these areas the wallabies are only found in small, isolated colonies. In South Australia, the animals are often found in Gawler, Flinders Rangers and The Olary Ranges. In New South Wales they are found in Gap and Cotauraundee Ranges. Since European settlement the abundance and distribution of the species has declined (Australian Wildlife Conservancy, 2015).
The yellow-footed rock wallaby has played a vital role in a very successful wallaby cross-foster program. Another wallaby that is critically endangered, called the Victorian Brush-tailed rock wallaby have their joeys removed from their pouches and the Yellow-food Rock wallaby fosters them. This allows the other wallabies to give birth more often, because they do not have to worry about caring for their young. This process has helped improve a population when there were less than 60 Victorian Brush-tailed rock wallabies in the wild. (Monarto Zoo, 2015)

It is important that endangered species are taken seriously, the food-chain and ecosystem may not be able to cope without the animals there to help.
