In the veterinary field client communication is extremely important. It defines the clinic and it's what makes a client decide if they want to come back or not. A very important factor in communicating with your client is how you approach them, your body language and just your general attitude towards them. One of the hardest things you could do in any medical field is deliver bad news. Bad news is bad news, but the way it is delivered will have a huge impact on the client. Giving bad news should be done carefully and humanely, and trust should be established as well as a relationship being built. Empathy is one of the most important things. Maybe if you relate a client's situation with a situation you were once in, and explain how you once grieved, it will help you two relate as a person. You should also never rush your client once bad news is delivered. Give them your full attention, answer their questions, make sure that your client is aware that you are empathetic and you care. For example, I was employed and a veterinary clinic, and the veterinarian always let the client take their time with any decisions that had to be made. In many cases euthanasia can be the only answer, and there was actually one vet who would go over and hug the client. We would always make a clay paw print and a card would be mailed to the client's house. If you have a bad attitude over the situation, you are going to make the person feel way worse considering pets are part of the family, and it is assumed that if you are working in the veterinary field you have a passion for animals. How would you feel if your pet was in very rough shape and the person in charge of his/her life acted completely
