Based on the results from the VALS survey, my primary type segment would categorize as an Experiencers. According to the VALS site, Experiencers have high resources and a Self-Expression motivation. Members of this group typically want everything, are first in and first out of trend adoption, go against the current mainstream, are up on the latest fashions, love physical activity (are sensation seeking), see themselves as very sociable, believe that friends are extremely important, are spontaneous and have heightened sense of visual stimulation. I believe that the VALS survey was accurate in their description of the Experiencer. I find that I typically do want everything that’s on the market, even though I don’t need it. I have always had the “you only like once” mentality. So, I tend to do things on the whim. An example of this would be when I decided to take my brother to Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA. I made the decision to go at around one in the morning and at seven in the morning we were on the road to go to State College, PA. The VALS survey also categorized my secondary type to an Innovator. Innovators typically are always taking in information, are confident enough to experiment, make the highest number of financial transactions, are skeptical about advertising, have international exposure, are future oriented, are self-directed consumers, believe science and R&D are creditable, are most receptive to new ideas and technologies, enjoy the challenge of problem solving and have the widest variety of interest and activities. I also believe that the description of the Innovator was spot on as well. I have always been future oriented. I have always had a path that I was going to follow for my future. It’s an area that’s fairly close to downtown Silver Spring. The PRIZM data was off on the amount of kids that is present in the area. The area actually has a lot of families with kids and a lot of the families have raised their kids there since birth. Out of the five PRIZM segments, there was only one PRIZM segment that mentions with kids. The two PRIZM segments that I found to best reflect the area were 13.Upward Bound and 10.Second City Elite. This is because Upward Bound is upper families boast dual income with college degrees, which is accurate for the area. A lot of the family’s parents both are educated and working and the kids are either in school or daycare. In the area if they don’t have kids, then the segment that accurately matches them would be Second City Elite. I find that it’s true that for that more than half of them have a college degree and in a professional
