Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
Self-Exploration
Over this course of this semester, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about myself from the self-exploration series. The results of my PGI (Personal Globe Inventory) presented me with a couple of different career paths to explore. The first type of career that was brought up to my attention was an enterprising career. There were a number of enterprising careers, but the one that interested me the most was business management. I decided to choose the business management because I am majoring in Sustainability and my focus is in Economics. I think business management would be an excellent fit for myself because I have actually done some research prior to this class about management. I would like to someday own an ice rink, and I think that becoming a manager would be a great stepping-stone towards reaching my goal. ...rview for the first time was quite the experience. I gained a lot of valuable information about what it takes to be a Head Ice Technician for the NHL. I came into the informational interview with a list of ten specific questions related to his field and I came out of the interview with a wealth of knowledge that cannot be obtained anywhere else. The underlining theme behind the informational interview I conducted was to network. My interviewee mentioned that he obtained his current position as an ice technician not through experience alone, but by the people he knew and built long lasting relationships with. Following the informational interview, I was not too surprised about the comments I received because I already had a good idea of what the career was like. If anything, the comments I collected were taken as reinforcement to try and pursue the career further.

Career and technical education courses are intended to prepare high school students to enter the work force in a skilled trade. It equips the students with the experience and education necessary to succeed in an average skill level job while maintaining the student’s interest. In an article that focuses on an aviation CTE program, a “senior policy analyst at the Morrison Institute, said that Career and Technical Education provides another opportunity for students who struggle in high school.” The assumption is that students who struggle in high school presumably do not want another four years of education to attain a bachelor’s degree. Until recently, schools have been excessively geared towards college readiness. The dogma was elementary school, high school, college, without exception. With this “one size fits all” education system in place, a different education course had to evolve. In Judith Halberstam’s piece “Female Masculinity,” she offers the audience a few potential definitions of the term ‘masculinity’ and how the term applies to “feminine masculinity.” She states that “although we seem to have a difficult time defining masculinity, as a society, we have little trouble recognizing it” (935). Halberstam suggests that female masculinity is often blatantly ignored in culture and studies due to the indifferent feeling often associated with the topic. Halberstam uses her essay to explain a variety of aspects associated with female femininity like tomboys, queer methodologies, and the bathroom problem. Halberstam’s description of the term ‘Tomboys’ is reminiscent of the character Emily Fields from the Pretty Little Liars book series by Sara Shepard. Progressing through middle school with a group of ‘girly’ friends, Emily is easily labeled with the term ‘tomboy’ due to her sporty exterior. Her overly conservative Christian family and classmates see no ‘threat’ or meaning behind Emily’s tomboy appearance because they believe it is just a stage in her life. As soon as Emily enter tenth grade and starts hanging out with a homosexual female, her family and classmates grow concerned about Emily’s masculine looks and behaviors. In the book titled Prettty Little Liars, one of the liars, Emily’s evident masculine ways raises concern to her thesis-go back and fix it .
1) The representation of African American’s in television has increased greatly since the early 1950’s. Through the years that television has progressed, the view of ethnic and racial groups have improved. From their beginnings as stereotypical roles to primary characters in television, the representation of African Americans have transformed in almost every genre in television. Tracing the development of African Americans through television history helps us to understand the different ways a group of people are represented and how that representation changes as the years go by.
Sequence: I use sequence first in all areas of my life such as school, work and also personal relationships. I need step by step direction before I can start any tasks and delivers what is expected of me. I am well-ordered, very detailed oriented and I like to know what is going to happen next. I need time to complete my work so I set a schedule for everything since I thrive on a well-organized life.
Marijuana—a prominently used, yet widely opposed substance. Marijuana usage has been and is an immensely debated subject within the states. Many liberal states favor the drug due to its economic and medicinal values. However, many conservative states abhor the narcotic due to its psychoactive effects on the brain and its minimal medicinal value. These anti-marijuana fans emphasize the drug’s relation to the usage of more potent substances such as cocaine. Overall, there is high tension between those who advocate the drug versus those who protest against it. Economically, taxation on marijuana provides a supplemental income to the state that results in a higher budget for the states’ respective governments; medicinally, the narcotic eases pain for terminally ill patients and alleviates the sense of disorientation. Furthermore, the drug has less harmful effects to the body in comparison to tobacco and alcohol; therefore, the legalization of the previous two should justify the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana’s pros exceed its cons and thus, the substance’s legalization is justifiable.
As the semester comes to an end, it is now finals time on the UIndy campus. As part of my Psychology class and our final exam we are to pick out one person that we had read or learned about throughout the semester. The person I am choosing to do a brief biography on and his contributions to psychology is a gentleman named, Philip Zimbardo. The main reason I chose to write about Zimbardo is because of his Stanford Prison Simulation experiment. This experiment not only shocked me but truly captivated me as I read about it.
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.

Monsters were always likely to been in folklores and myths among many countries. In the oxford dictionary, a term monster is “An imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening.” From this definition, we can see that a monster is a creature which frightens people. This is typically true to children. Especially in folklores, monsters are used to discipline children by teaching them moralities. In this paper, I would like to compare and contrast the similarities and difference of a Japanese monster and the Western monster. From this comparison, we will have a better understanding of each other’s culture, and how it developed as a part of its culture.
People have had this fascination with technology long before there were any actual texts to write down our history. While the technology that humans had a few thousand years ago were not as advanced as what we have today, they were still toying with the idea of creating machines that would have the capability to make the similar, rational decisions that we do. It is only until the late 19th or early 20th century that the advances in technology have allowed people to put more emphasis on the question of when, because it is only a matter of time, humanoid artificial intelligence will outwardly simulate human emotions closely enough that we have to wonder if they deserve or be accorded the moral status of people.
During the Medieval Period, women were typically seen as inferior individuals that were put on the side and portrayed as damsels in distress always looking for a knight to save her life. Ladies possessed only characteristics like beauty, attractiveness, and grace and were expected to have no voice appearing only as a possession or prize of the brave Knight (Paris). The Medieval Ages was a time when women were totally dominated by the male members of their family. Men were seen as superior figures that had complete control over every aspect of a women’s life. Women were the property of their father and brothers until they were sold off or arranged to marry (Goldie 126). Even though women were assumed to have minimal roles in society, the role that women still had an effect on men (Root). In the poems Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, going against the typical roles of women, the women were given an important role in society. The women in the poems were able to use their position to ultimately control the fate of the male protagonist. The women in the poems have a major effect on the chivalric values, honor, and status of the knights.
The concept of virtual classes seemed challenging when I was first introduced to it. Gradually, I felt more confident and comfortable with the assignments and the virtual community of nurses. I am pleasantly surprised how important and meaningful the virtual community of nursing colleagues became to me. Sharing the assignments online with my fellow nursing students enhanced my critical thinking and helped me grow professionally. I feel like reading and responding to my colleagues’ writing through Moodle helped me discover nursing from a variety of different perspectives. For example, there are nurses in our class who work in oncology settings. They have shared their experiences in their clinical settings with the use of alternative and complementary medicine that I will incorporate into my practice. Online community is very valuable to me. I enjoy being a part of the amazing group of people!
With the instruction of professor, we fulfilled three different kinds of writing projects for this semester. For the Writing Project 1, I explored the pathos, ethos and logos by means of analyzing a documentary. I chose Jia Jiang’s TED speech, 100 Days of Rejection. Because there are masses of details and stories I could take advantage of to confirm this documentary’s creditability. In addition, as for the Writing Project 2, I explored the issue of Arms Trade by analyzing multiple perspectives regarding a solution. That’s a great challenge for me. Furthermore, in my Writing Project 3 I proposed a series of solution to Everytown, a local organization fighting for the gun violence, to solve the problem of illegal arms trade.
