Some people talk about being military brats, well I am a Union brat. My mom has been an unionized teacher, while my dad is currently the president of his local union. I've been able to experience first hand the benefits of an unionized workplace. Even though Tennessee is a ‘right to work’ state, my parent have chosen to be active supporting members of their work unions. The effects of a strong union are found throughout the contracts for both my father and my mother. While my parents both consistently utilize their union benefits for job security, pay increases, seniority, and better working conditions, my personal experience with the union has been with the health insurance benefit that was negotiated as part of my dad's union contract.
