Typical Day at Work There is no typical day of work for a nurse because every day is different and some days are more challenging than others. A typical task performed daily is “making rounds” (A Typical Day). Overall, a career in nursing is flexible because of the opportunities and specializations offered to them. Nurses are able to work with patients of all ages varying from newborns to the elderly, or to specialize with certain ages of patients, such as pediatrics. Next, the work-life balance of a nurse is phenomenal. Nurses have a set schedule so they work the same days and shifts every week and they have options to work part-time, full-time, or per diem. This flexibility allows parents to spend time with their family and children. A career in nursing has the benefit of meaningful work because “it is not basic repetition… It is challenging, hard work which is often exhausting and frustrating... Nurses receive satisfaction knowing that their work and very presence is important” (Advantages). Study groups provide social connections to the world outside of the classroom while studying, making it something fun to look forward to.
