What treatments are the most effective to curing cancer?

Cancer has become a very common illness which has affected more that 12 million people over the world since the 1970’s (Ahmedin, 2011). The diagnosis of cancers has been on the increase and many new kinds are being discovered. There are over 200 different kinds of cancers, most of which many people are unfamiliar with. Each type of cancer has different symptoms and many are diagnosed differently. There is a major concern that people are not aware of the symptoms they should be looking out for and leave it too late to seek medical help. There are many different methods of treating cancer such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. There have been many different new discoveries over the past century each bringing ideas of different methods of treating cancer.

Origins of cancer
Cancer is the change of normal cells to abnormal. There are millions of cells in the human body and it can only take several hundred of them to form a large mass. This ball of cells is known as a tumour and if not treated quickly it can have an effect on the body. There are two different types of tumours – cancerous and non-cancerous. Non-cancerous tumours are known as benign tumours and do not tend to grow. However, even though these are not cancerous they can still have an effect on your health and may have to be treated. The cancerous types of tumours are called malignant tumours and grow very rapidly. These types of cells also spread quickly through the blood and can attack other organs, eventually causing them to shut down if not treated.

By the discovery of new drugs this has allowed cancers that were once fatal to now have a chance of being cured. An example of this is Hodgkin Lymphoma which is now curable.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many different types of cancer each of which have a specific way of being treated. Each method used to treat cancer is effective but some are more effective than others. I personally think that the use of surgery is the most effective way as it can remove a large part of a tumour at the one time. This can then be followed by radiotherapy to reduce the cancer cell count. There are also many advances that are being discovered every day, each making cancer more easy to treat.
