Transition to College Freshman fifteen? More like freshman fifty with all of the added stress the transition from high school to college puts on incoming students. High school students are nowhere near prepared enough to begin college in the fall. With their newly gained independence, college students have poor time management and instead spend time that should be used for studying to go out and party. Numerous amounts of students drop out of college due to poor grades, feeling an overwhelming sense of not belonging, and as a result of feeling like college is wasting their time and their money. They help to encourage students to complete their work on time and be more productive. When working in a group, people learn why others have different viewpoints and opinions. Working in groups is a good way to get out of roadblocks and helps students understand the material in a new light. Cooperation is a good habit to have, and study groups are a good way to gain that skill (“Benefits of Study Groups”). Students need to keep themselves and their mental health in mind first and foremost. Grades do not matter if a person is minutes away from a mental breakdown. They also need to realize they are allowed to ask for help from their professors and their fellow students. College is the perfect time to branch out and try new things. Students cannot be afraid to fail or mess up for once in their lives. Learning how to balance social life, academic progress, and financial situations can be hard at first for new college school students, but there are many resources available for students. Colleges want their students to succeed, both in college and afterwards with their careers. However, students are going to need to put the effort in themselves to get the work done on time. Colleges are not parents, they do not check up on those enrolled every night. If someone needs help, they need to ask for help themselves.
