Transformational leadership is based on self-interest, inspirational, and motivation that it is used to communicate with others. This type of leadership focus on a long term vision for the company, and it creates the values of the firm. Usually employees in the firm are influence by the company leader’s beliefs and values. On the other hand, transformational leaders use power to manipulate others and transformational leaders tend to focus on self-interest on the decision making process. Transactional leadership is more like a supervision performance where the leader ensure that employees are working correctly, and employees are meeting the expectations of the company. This type of leaders enhance their values into the employees, so they can manipulate the employees easily. Also, transformational leaders can use their power to support decision that will benefit them. Transactional leadership is based on power and management, more than anything, it uses power to achieve goals of the company by punishing or rewarding employees. Transactional leaders have big control over the employees, and usually employees work under pressure to achieve the expectation of the leaders. If I were a follower, I would follow a transformational leadership, as long as the leader have moral values, integrity, honesty, etc., I will not have a problem following a transformational leader whose only goal is to motivate the employees to reach the company objectives. As a leader, I would prefer to be transformational leader rather than a transactional leader. I will like to be a transformational leader because I will like to inspire others to be successful, to work hard for their dreams, to create a vision that will reward the company and the employees at the same time, I don’t believe I would be selfish.
