For hundreds of years, masons in the construction industry have endured some of the most physically grueling conditions while working. From carrying tons of masonry units to laying brick roads on their hands and knees, those men helped create some of the most monumental structures in the world in their time. With very limited technology, ancient masons developed ways to accomplish their jobs more easily and much faster. Tools and techniques were invented and improved over time to speed up the process of construction so the road or building could be used as soon as possible. Since these older practices of construction masonry were executed, modern technologies have been developed to furthermore speed up construction and make life easier for the masons. In today’s developed societies, technology is continuing to explode in most industries, with more ways to accomplish tasks more efficiently; in the field of construction, one example of such technology is the Tiger-Stone brick paving machine.
Within the past decade, the Tiger-Stone was created by a Dutch inventor, Henk van Kuijk. This simple machine basically “prints” brick roads that can stretch for miles. The hand-fed paving machine, nearly 20 feet (6 meters) wide at its largest size, uses gravity to slide the bricks in place on the road while maintaining the desired pattern and width of the road (Shenky, 2012). The Tiger-Stone rides on a set of crawler tracks placed towards its center, under the machine, and has a platform for the workers to feed the bricks through the machine on the metal slide. Through its efficient and quick process, the Tiger-Stone has expedited the construction of paving brick roads, walkways, garden paths, and sidewalks. Laying bricks can be back-breaking ...

As the Tiger-Stone brick paving machine begins its new life in the construction industry, opportunities may or may not continue to grow and help ease the work of masons. As technology and innovation continuously excels in today’s society, there will only be improvements to this machine and all other technological advances. Technology is making life so easy and work so simple because new inventions are being developed to make things faster, stress-free, and long-lasting. The Tiger-Stone has made its mark in the construction industry, and now it is time to observe how far it will actually go through its lifetime of manufacturing and use. While we rely on the future of technology, the future of technology is relying on us.
