Julius Caesar was a very controversial emperor of Rome. Many saw him as a villain, but but he also proved himself to many as a hero. I believe that Caesar was a hero. He proved himself as hero when he started a program to make public jobs for the poor, rebuilt the cities of Rome, and brought peace and order to Rome.
Julius Caesar is one of the famous personalities of the world history. It was Caesar who ended the Roman republic and paved the way for the later Roman emperors. Although there is a lot written about him, there was always debate if he was a hero or a villain. But for many people, including myself, Caesar is an interesting person. I will give the facts of his remarkable life and leave you to decide if he was a hero or tyrant.
Julius Caesar was thought to have been a power hungry and cruel leader to some people but the truth is that he is one of the most acomplished and decorated leaders in history. He is recognized as one of the most successful leaders because of his military acompishments like leading his army throughout the Galic Wars and he also had a lot of religious influence by having ties with the church and he was also a Political leader.

Thus, on the 6th of March 44 BC, the so called Ides of March, Caesar was murdered by Marcus Brutus, Gaius Cassius, and his two trusted commanders of his old legions Decimus Brutus and Gaius Trebonius (Encarta 2000). Caesar was stabbed twenty-three times. While the blood poured out of his wounded body the great dictator of Rome silently pulled his toga over his head and fell at the foot of a statue of Pompeius (Internet Explorer). In conclusion, Julius Caesar was probably the greatest man of his time and the most successful. It was Caesar who ended the Roman republic and paved the way for the later Roman emperors (Encarta 2000). From his early life to his death no other man accomplished as much as he did. Was Caesar a hero or a tyrant? Caesar did many things that show he was a hero, and a tyrant, but which was he really. Did Caesar deserved to be praised like he was, or assassinated? “A law authored by Caesar had been found, but not yet introduced, which would proclaim Caesar a living god.” Caesar did seem the type of person to be a tyrant, but what he actually did while he was in power was good for Rome.

He was very powerful and established a popularity among the people of Rome. He reduced slavery, gave more land to people like peasants and soldiers, established roman colonies, and also established tax reforms. He was one of the most rich orators and latin prose authors, he was killed before finishing his life’s work. Because of his achievement, he is one of the few individuals who changed the course of history. He definitely changed the asspescts of the Roman Empire. He will always be remembered. A major characteristic of a tragic hero is that he must come from a good background and obtain high social status. Julius Caesar fits both of these qualities. Not only is he the supreme ruler of Rome, but he is also a very wealthy and well-respected man as well. The people of Rome respect Caesar for several reasons. They admire him because he cares for Rome, he governs Rome, and he has made it a great empire. Caesar is sometimes referred to as a dictator for life by the Roman people. His army is also an awesome military force and is very capable of defending Rome as it displayed Pompey early in the play. Not only was he remembered through defeating challenging competitions, but he was remembered by his characteristics of nobility. Document C states how “he had an elegant, splendid, noble, and magnificent vein of eloquence.” It also gave their opinion on how Caesar was not the greatest of men but was remembered for his nobility. He also shows nobility when he came across a miserable-looking village. Document A says “I would rather be the first man here, than the second in Rome.” Meaning that he would rather be first at ruling a poor place and help those in need versus those already rich who need less help.
